wind at night - tips

My LO (3 months corrected, was premature) currently falls asleep between 8 and 9, then sleeps through til around 3.30. So far so good. He feeds at about 3.30, and this sends him back to sleep. He then goes back down to sleep in his basket. He had started sleeping through after that til about 7 - 8. But, in the last week he has started waking up about an hour after going back down, grunting and uncomfortable. I can get him back down again (e.g. rocking, legs up and cycling which sometimes helps wind out, and maybe a quick feed), but after an hour the same thing happens again, and so on until we get up. It's making me very tired, and I hate seeing him uncomfortable. I think it's wind, but I can't work out why it gets so bad at this time - the night feed (BF) is pretty relaxed, and I usually get him to burp. I have tried gripe water, which does get more wind out, but doesn't seem to stop the subsequent discomfort and waking. Any similar experiences, or tips on how to help him? Thanks!

Do you bottle or breast feed? Colief made my baby heaps more comfortable, and I use dr browns bottles for forumla feeding which reduce wind.

Have you tried propping up the end of the basket so he's not lying completely flat?

Ds2 was doing that and would oy sleep with me. He's now on gaviscon for infant reflux which has made a huge difference. I noticed he sleeps well in swing and car seat so rolled a blanket up and put it under the head of his mattress. Problem solved. Hope it helps your lo. Lack of sleep is torture.

It might be reflux, not wind. Silent reflux can look like they're needing to be winded even after they have been but it's really like heartburn instead. It's more common in premature babies I think as well?

Thanks all. He does have silent reflux, which is being treated (largely successfully) with drugs, and he has his basket propped up. It is a good point that it looks like wind though. The drugs need to keep pace with weight to be effective, and it may be that he has coming up to the point where he needs an increase (we are waiting for the time when that increase isn't needed . . .). In case it is wind, our nurse has recommended as much tummy time as possible before bed as that helps. So we will try that too.

Mine had silent reflux. It got a lot better from 4-5 months so hang on in there. There's quite a big growth spurt around 3/4/5 months do watch the weight. Is he on formula? Can make it worse unless hypoallergenic stuff.
