OMG if he's like this at 2 with food, what's he going to be like at 12???

This morning at 8.15-8.30 DS2 (who's 2.4 months) had 2 organic wheat biscuits. After I'd dropped DS1 at school at 9am I decided to have some scrambled eggs on toast before I went to bed (was working last night). He got all excited and wanted some too - decided seeing as though I wanted to finish that loaf off I would make a little extra for him - didn't think he'd eat it - but he'd be happy.

He polished a slice of toast and scrambled egg - and then ate 1/2 banana afterwards too Shock! He's going to eat me out of house and home by the time he's a teenager at this rate!

Gosh, is that all he usually has for breakfast? My ds would come as a shock to you then! Usually polishes off two bowls of cereal or porridge and a couple of pieces of fruit (helps himself from the bowl). Often has toast or crackers as well.

is that really a lot? sounds like a reasonable breakfast to me!!

I was going to start a similar thread today!

DS1 ate all his porridge, cadged some of mine, asked for a cereal bar, then raisins, then was shouting "beans!" - this all before 10am... He often runs up to his highchair at 10.30 shouting "din-dins!"!

does your DS snack during the day as well Enid? I only ask as he then had half of DH's breakfast when he got up, several biscuits, a slice of homemade bread (huge slices) and some apple - before his lunch (while I was in bed)- which he then polished as well.

when he gets up he'll snack almost constantly until 6.30 when he'll polish his dinner.

DS1 (who's 5) is a good eater - but would never manage that much (although I've heard that he has more food in his lunchbox than most of his friends at school - and always finishes it Blush)

My DD (3) has been like this at breakfast time since about 2, can polish off 2 Weetabix, a slice of honey and toast and 1/2 pint of fruit smoothie. However, until recently, she only ate a small lunch/dinner.

and you're brave edam - letting a 2yr old help themselves from the fruit bowl - ours is kept out of reach and he has to ask - otherwise we'd find half eaten bananas and apples with bite marks all over them LOL.

Ah, DS is fab for most of the day but goes down hill drastically after 5.

oh god and Roast Chicken - if for some bizarre reason we're ever invited to a MN'ers house for dinner - please for goodness sake don't cook a Roast Chicken - we'll end up with the wings and legs (if we're lucky) and he'd polish the breasts.

I once bought an extra large chicken to use for two meals, DH had the legs, I had a small piece of breast (not a big eater), DS1 had a reasonable amount of breast - and DS2 finished the rest of it - there went my chicken pie...........

Ah, I see, ds doesn't tend to snack a lot in the day - if I remember to give him a snack he'll eat it but if I forget he never asks.

It's not so much that I 'allow' him to help himself, more that he can reach the bowl and I haven't got anywhere else to put it! And yes, there are side effects - but at least it's in the kitchen (our sitting room is upstairs so fruit doesn't get transferred without me noticing...).

jmum - when DS1 was that age he didn't eat much at all - and it was nice and cheap - now it costs me a fortune - and I can only see the costs rising - have visions of having to turn the lawn into a vegetable patch to sustain the increase LOL.

kama - that doens't sound like a lot to me - what you've put.........he practically never stops eating if he goes more than 1 1/2hrs without a snack it's either a miracle - or he's asleep LOL.

I should add that it was 2 (large) eggs scrambled with his toast - and it was a massive breadmaker bread slice of toast (we don't do shop bread Wink).

He woke up 1hr ago and since then has had another banana, another slice of bread and 3 biscuits + juice. - and will eat his dinner in 1/2hr (if I get my arse off the computer seat and cook it Blush)

All I am going to say is I am sooooooooooooooo jealousEnvy. My 2.5yr old has had half spoon of cereal. One bite of toast and refused anything else put in front of him so am hoping he will eat some dinner.
Yesterday he had a banana, a bite of toast and that was it despite being offered all sorts.

Thats the norm for him so would be delighted if one day he just ate an abundance of stuff.

Nemo - DS1 was like that at 2 - but by the time he was about 3.5 started eating properly - and we've never looked back.

I'm just glad the new fridge freezer we've got coming on Friday is quite a lot bigger than the one we currently have Smile

Question for those of you lucky enough to have a good eater.

Will they eat anything you give them?

How big are they??

How big are they?? - he's 'average' height and weight for his age. Some say he's tall - but I think that's just because I'm so short it makes him look tall - he's in aged 3-4 clothes though......

DS was in his highchair at 4pm putting on his bib and bellowing "tea ready!!" We don;t eat tea until 5 - 5.30ish.

Perhaps it's the weather or something?!

Report
hunkermunker · 28/03/2006 19:02

No, he won't eat anything I give him. But he does eat a wide variety of things. Put raw fruit anywhere near him (except bananas) and he won't touch it - except to hold it up and say no, perhaps... He loves big dinners (meat and 15 veg type dinners!) best of all - and sandwiches and soup and beans and pulses of every sort (FAZ, he loves quinoa...).

How big is he? Not very. 25th centile, not an ounce of fat on him.
