REusable - disposables way too pricey and prone to leak at some point. Also not too confident about the amount of chemicals, gels and bleaching used in the manufacture of disposables. Prefer to know exactly what I'm putting on my baby's bum!

I used cloth for nearly 3 years - now ds has a dispie pull up on at night (he sleeps for 12 hours).

I used cloth until dd was day trained, I use a disposable at night but am going back to a cloth as soon as can lay my hands on one that fits the little madam!

dont have kids of my own yet, but when i do it will definitely be cloth! full time!

Used pretty much every brand of disposable... + loads of diffrent cloth nappies... cloth are by far my favourite (tho NOT cotton bottoms!).... disposables are SOOOO expensive and i cant bear all the chemicals and gels they use!

  • theres the landfill / enivoronment issues etc!

Cloth. Disps leak too much and cost a fortune.

Used cloth for DS1 and disp. for DS2.
I prefered the disposables because they were easier especially when out and about.

Cloth for DS1, and have lots of new fluffy Tots for baby on the way :) Will hopefully be using cloth from nappy one for this baby (started at about 2 weeks for DS after c/s).

is it not a pain when out that you can't just throw your baby's nappy away?

Nope you just sling them in a waterproof bag (you can buy special reusable ones or a carrier bag does the job) and sort them out when you get home. I've used them for my two and never found it a problem.

Cloth, DS has never had a disposable on his bum. Disposables way too expensive and never run out of cloth

MummyToToby · 20/03/2006 22:07

do they smell when you are out though?

No, I put them in a waterproof bag with a bit of cotton wool soaked in tea tree oil. Never had a problem with smells. Disposables are smellier IMO

Cloth for Tilly since she was a few weeks old but this imminent arrival will be in cloth from birth. Love 'em Smile and can't stand disposables although will resort to Moltex for weekends away. Long hols we just take cloth.
Tilly also dry in day at 18 months which I think is easier with cloth.....

Cloth smell less because they don't have perfume and chemicals in them (I really notice the smell of a disp-wearing baby - not that I noticed this before I stopped using disps though! Like smokers not smelling cigarette smoke, I think...). And when you're out, you chuck the poo in the loo as always, then it's just a wee nappy and it goes in a watertight bag. No smells at all, and chuck in machine when you get home...

The main reason I used cloth when out and about was because I was guaranteed no poo leaks. Whereas with Huggies et al, it would brim up over the back or ooze out down the legs... Cloth never did this - not even once!

Very happy with my environmentally friendly(ish) disposables. Hated cloth with a passion and feel just fine about disps esp after long conversation with the man who wrote the paper for the Environmental Agency on how cloth were no better for the environment than disps. So there! Grin

I use disposables, and love 'em! I like the ease and the flexibility.

Definitely cloth - cheaper, better for the environment and imo better for baby's health.
