What age is it ok for kids to go to clubs without a parent?

My DDs are 5&6, and want to go to Rainbows. DP is insisting that they are too young and I have to stay with them.
I think he's over cautious/paranoid, what do you think?

Paranoid. What does he think will happen to them?

I have no idea... if it was up to him, I wopuld never let them out of my sight. They are actually quite independant, and I take them to parties, leave them, and lie if he asks me.
I don't think I can get away with it every week though.

Ask him why, then tell him if he's that worried, he can stay with them.

And you don't want them to be the weirdy kids with the ever-present mum, do you?

Jasnem, you really need to suggest your dh takes them. If it is before he gets home, what about him taking them to a kids party at the weekend, I am sure he will be suitably embarrassed (or they will) that he will never do it again!!

He doesn't want them to go at all, so if I don't take them, they'd never do anything (plus it's at 4pm, and he's generally at work.)

He was here when the Brownie leader came , and heard her ask me if I could stay and help, so that won't work.

I don't mind staying and helping occasionally, but I am 34 weeks pregnant, and can't take the baby, so I don't want to do it every week.

TELL HIM NO

Is he usually so over-protective? Does he have a problem with you going out? He is being OTT, IMO.

Report
codthemod · 09/01/2006 17:50

tell him to go and help if he is so bothered.

Jasnem, well then, agree to 'stop and help' the first couple of times. Then tell him you can't due to new baby. Once they have started he won't stop them going would he??

Report
crunchie · 09/01/2006 17:53

Actually no, on 2nd thoughts I am back to what I first said 'tell him to Foff '

Yes he is usually this overprotective (paranoid) about everything to do with the kids. No idea why, doesn't mind me doing my own thing, but seems to think they are still babies.

He never did any activities outside school, and thinks it's un necessary, or that it's me pushing (not the case).
