Newborn Cough - Does She Need to See the GP?

DD1, 2.5, contracted a horrific chest cold from my FIL. It became a chest infection, and she is now on anti-biotics and recovering.

DD2, 4 weeks, has been coughing since Saturday.

No temperture. It does not seem to be interferring w/feeding (she is bf'd) or sleep (I put a folded towel under her Moses basket mattress to prop her up), but it's a very chesty cough. She also has lots of boggies.

Does she need to see someone?

We're buying a warm mist humidifier today, in hopes it'll help.

You could get her checked at the doctor just to make sure her chest is clear etc.

With such a young baby I think I would get to the GP pronto

I would take her to GP. I didn't take my 6 week old to the GP straight away when he had a cough and it turned out to be bronchiolitus. They like to keep an eye on them when they are so small.

She was examined thoroughly by the doctor yesterday. As she has no temperature and is feeding well and having wet and dirty nappies, we're steaming her a few times a day and putting saline drops in her nose.

But the poor soul is STILL plagued by a very chesty cough.

It's heartbreaking enough in her toddler older sister, but downright horrid to hear in a newborn baby.

The humidifier helped last night. Will repeat tonight.
