My little boy seems to get cold after cold and there seems no let up apart from the odd day that he is slightly better then unfortunately he is sadly back with a sore throat and ruuny nose only to start the whole process again. At the moment he has coughed all night on and off since last Saturday, I have phoned my GP and they will see him on Friday morning. I feel so sorry for him he is so exhausted with it all. Any tips, and is he the only one surely not .... help!?

If he is of a suitable age (ie. not a very young baby who will slip under the covers) you can tilt his bed/cot by putting a couple of thick books(telephone directories?)under the legs of the bed at the head end. This will drain the plegm/snot etc and enable him to sleep without so much coughing. If he has a lot of plegm etc you should try to help him cough it up during the day and just before he sleeps. If your GP has a community physiotherapist available she should be able to give you more specific advice for this.

Is there anything new in his life recently ? Is there a reason for him to be under stress ?
My "alternative" side suggest the following if that's your cup of tea:
-a lot of bed rest (no outing)- very quiet time to rest even if he doesn't sleep.
-lots of TLC - cuddles, reassuring chat to him (even if he doesn't understad your tone will re-assure him) - I always prone skin-to-skin.

How old is him ???? and therefore how is he fed ? bf ? solids ????

I do this with both my kids when they are under the weather and I can not stress enough that it works really well. I have yet to give a single medication to DS who is 2 1/2 (some friends have said.... how cruel.... as a joke of course )

Why dont you ask the GP if he can give a prescription for a coughing suppressent for at night only. My ds goes through the same thing and I got a prescription for the cough. He too was wiped out. I was told to give it to him right before bed. But only so he can get a couple nights sleep. I know its not a long term thing but if he is exausted it will help for a couple nights. Makes you really drousy and relaxed. I think i might see if i can have my ds checked for asthma. He coughs all night all the time too. He sounds like he might just have a low immune system. I was told that once.

Thanks all, went to the Doctors today, and it is slightly on his chest, but just plough on. I did the pillow under the mattress and loads of Karvol, snuffle babe etc, and thank goodness through it all, it appears the worst is over, eg the cold has broken. Pupuce he is 17 months old and was breast fed, but now on full fat organic cows milk.

i am very open to anything, and a very old friend of mine is a homeopathic practitioner so I am awaiting an EE mail. Thanks for the suggestions it was really bad on Wednesday when I wrote this orginal thread, but we are getting through it.x
