Talking before sleep

Our little boy is 15 months old and a real chatterbox. He is picking up words at an amazing rate. Has anyone else experienced the following; I put him in his sleeping bag after his bath and he is tired and sleepy, normally he just drops off and thats it for the night, however, just recently he has been talking to himself for up to an hour before he finally drops off. He is not screaming just chattering and laughing all in the dark on his own. My husband says that our son is just reliving his day and practicing his new words but I don't know - anyone else have this?

Sounds so cute! My son is 20 months and occasionally he has done this too. Not lately, but I remember a few months ago he would lie in his cot and chatter away to himself and we could hear him practising certain sounds. Eventually he would fall asleep. I think it's pretty normal. Must admit it's much nicer listening to them chatter to themselves in the dark than having a screaming session!

We also had this with our son - and as Liamsmum says its rather cute! Once he was at nursery & learning songs etc he used to sing himself to sleep with 'twinkle, twinkle little star' ! I used to listen on the monitor down in the kitchen with tears in my eyes...
Now he's older (28 months) he 'reads' to his soft toys after we have read stories together and tucked him up. I wouldn't worry I think it's perfectly normal!

Motherofone, I got tears in my eyes when I read that you got tears in your eyes listening to him!! Aren't we pathetic? Not really, but it's amazing what pulls at the heartstrings when you having a little one... they can be so adorable.

Charliesmummy, our 17 month old does this every night and we too enjoy listening to it too... I think it is quite normal.

Our son does this, it was every night but now it has subside to every now and then, it is very cute and my husband & I often have a little giggle listening to him. It does seem to be him re-living his day with our son as we hear certain things from the days events. For a while he woke in the middle of the night (3am!) and did it again for an hour and then went back to sleep. At 1st it was quite cute listening to him practising his animal noises & singing his favourite songs in the middle of an evening but after a week of it it started to worry me. However it has subsided now (finally). I'm glad this thread was started as I too worried if it was normal...but it appears it is!

Sorry that should have been after a week of him practising in the middle of the morning! the 3am-4am stint was the worrier, not early evening just as he settled!
