Get some navy woolly tights and put them on under his trousers, he'll soon get sick of pulling then! R

Any particular reason you need to keep them on? Assuming the rest of him is adequately clothed he won't loose much body heat this way even if his feet feel cold to you. It's very healthy for feet to be bare and they get loads of sensory information this way.

Taking socks off is a coordination feat in itself. Ever hopeful it will lead to an interest in putting them on.

I used to put little soft leather Daisy Roots bootees (come in lots of great colours and designs) on dd's feet to make it very difficult if not impossible to remove socks.

I have to admit that when my sons took their socks off outside, if the weather wasn't freezing, I used to let them go bare footed. I agree with Malmomum. It was not unusual for my sons to be sitting in their pushchair, dressed in coats, with naked feet. As soon as my sons were napping or feeding,(frequent occurances with 1 year olds in pushchairs) I popped the socks on again.

Mind you, if I had known about CAM's booties, I would have given them a go!

Malmomum, I agree about it being good for little ones to be barefoot, but I find if my 10mnth old son doesn't have shoes one inside his trousers are pulled down as he crawls, he then tries to stand up and trips. We have about two pairs of soft shoes that actually stay on - the rest just come off all the time.

I let my son do this, I love babies feet (see other thread), and it didn't bother me too much (although he was always loosing socks so he doesn't have one matching pair!!!) Frankly, I don't like shoes much either. I prefer bare feet where ever possible. However, we live in Britain not Australia and the climate means that his toes needed to be covered some of the time (we walk everywhere so he is not sheltered by being in a car when we are out and about). Shoes were never an option as he hated them and soft shoes went the way of socks. Our solution was a pair of soft fabric 'slippers' with Tiggers on, which he loved instantly and he lived in them where ever we went. He now wears shoes to go out but still takes his socks off at the first opportunity once he gets home!

I agree with both Tigermoth and Malmomum, my son who is 15 months is exactly the same and after spending loads of time retracing my steps when out shopping to retrieve either one or two lost socks, I've decided to let him win this battle.

However on another note one day whilst we were out and he had no socks on I was confronted by two middle aged ladies who told me I was an irresponsible mother who didn't deserve to have children. Needless to say I told them to go away and mind there own business!!!!!!

I found tights to be the business - the revelation of having a daughter second! Wish I'd thought about it when ds was little. Dd did periodically get rather annoyed when she found she couldn't remove them, though.

I dressed my two boys in tights when they were small as we lived in a very cold house. My young DD's love teasing their two big twenty-something brothers about the days they wore tights, teehee!

I found that Baby Gap socks were the only ones which tended to stay on, with or without 'assistance' from little hands! Ifound all other makes were prone to slipping off anyway. I also thought daisy Roots and Bobux 'shoes' were great...fun designs, and stayed on.

LOL, Alibubbles! My boys had red, navy, white and gold pairs of tights with a cable knit pattern on them. One of mine is now 6'3" and a size 12 shoe - his socks are nearly as long as his tights used to be!!!!! He was christened when he was 2 and the photos show him in a white shirt edged with blue lace and with a mass of curls, just like 'Bubbles' in the Pears Soap pictures. Embarrassing or wot??

I have the most gorgeous picture of my son aged not quite 18 months in a navy blue velvet Laura Ashley/romper sailor suit with long white socks!! What did we do to our kids! ( He was just out of nappies and I was terrified he'd wee in it! He refused point blank to have a nappy on,

Oh, good Lord, my son had a sailor suit as well, when he was about four! It was a really posh one from Jenner's in Edinburgh, complete with a whistle on a lanyard. I'd totally forgotten about it. But didn't they look just sooooo cute???
