EUROVISION - HELP SEND MY MATE TO ESTONIA!

Willow2 · 27/02/2002 10:41

Bizarrely, one of my friends has managed to make it to the last four in the search for our Eurovision entry! Now I wouldn't normally give a xxxx about Eurovision, but he's a nice boy and is kind to his mum, although I have to say the band's name is dreadful (but I think it's meant to be ironic). So I'm posting his plea here....

....Our song "I Give In" has had a charmed life so far. After its inception and recording in an outside toilet in Streatham, it has sailed through each stage of the Eurovision process -

from the last 20

to the last 8

to the last 4!!!!!

and that's where it will all end.

Unless you help us by voting early and often this Sunday. Song For Europe is a live programme with us on it which goes to air at 1630 on Sunday March 3rd. (Think it's BBC1) That's this Sunday. The weather forecast? I've looked already and it's a mixture of rain and sleet and nothing good's open anyway and there's a rail strike so don't even bother going out. Sit in front of the sofa with a phone in one hand and a mobile phone in the other and get voting with all your fingers. If it helps, dial with toes.

Before you do, though, tell all your friends, and I mean ALL your friends to do the same. It's 10p a call, but it will be worth it to see the look on each others faces when a bad wedding band makes it through to perform in front of a TV audience of 1 BILLION in Estonia. Of course, we won't beat the Slovenian Transexual Air Hostesses entry (catchiest name for this band wins a flight to Tallin to join us) but we'll have a ruddy good go. And every single person who voted for us will receive a postcard of the band in a crazy Estonian location. That's a promise. To the person who manages to vote for us the most times, there will be a T-shirt and mug with a picture of the band on. Send us an itemised phone bill (It's only a T-shirt and mug, for goodness sakes.)

Remember - a vote for

I GIVE IN

by

Surf'n'Turf

is a vote for common sense values in music.

Willow2, your friend is such an entertaining letter-writer, I'll vote for him, whatever the song.

PS Has he considered a career in advertising, if stardom eludes him?

They get my vote. The boy has a great future ahead of him. Let us know if he needs a claque to accompany surf'n'turf, because I have been to Tallinn and we all deserve to go. It is a lovely city full of very nice people.

I've decided to have a eurovision party this year. We usually have the subtitles on all night and it's hilarious. I hope your firend does very well and we'll be phoning too. Cheers.

Thanks for all your support. For the record, we're the only band of respectable parenting age, and have three between us to find babysitters for on Sunday night. Not very rock and roll, but look at it this way - a vote for Surf and Turf is a vote for music you won't mind your kids listening to. See you on Sunday.

The band.

ps Always open to job offers, advertising mum. M

Speaking of Eurovision (of which I am a huge fan) I once had a physiotherapist whose brother was Gina G's boyfriend. I was treated by her over the whole Eurovision period and got the odd bit of behind-the-scenes gossip! We were very disappointed when she didn't win - another one of those battles with Ireland, where UK gave them maximum points thus letting them win!

PS Surf'n'Turf gets my vote, not a fan of Jessica Pop Idol

Ems - what story? Are you referring to Johnathon in the band and his day job? Am bit confused (but hey, nothing new there).

Turfmum - when are we gonna hook up?

Willow2, yep, how its him off the telly, and how he's written the book about how to make it as a pop star etc. (amongst many other projects and things) And how its brilliant that as he says they are a small wedding band who are in the last four. Saw them on Watchdog (I think) thought it was great!

Just a reminder to vote Surf N Turf today - help me get my friend to Estonia, or he'll just bang on about nearly making it for ever!

Heard a plug for these on the rdio yesterday - possibly Five Live or Talk Sport because I was listening to the football commentary. They're Charlton fans, apparently!

Actually, my mate's a QPR fan - and sadly Surf N Turf did as well yesterday as QPR do most Saturdays. Who needs Estonia anyway?
