My son who is almost 3 has been registered with a dentist since he turned 2. They discovered that all four of his double teeth were discoloured and in danger of developing cavities. The reason for this is apparently when a child has a bottle of milk during the night, the natural sugars in the milk turn to acid and eat away at the tooth enamel. Today at a regular check-up I was told that holes have developed in these 4 teeth and that fillings are needed as soon as possible.
If anyone has had this happen to their child I would be very interested in hearing from them. Obviously if I had known that milk could do this I would not have let my son have it during the night. I feel that this should be pointed out by health visitors etc BEFORE a childs teeth come through. I am worried as to how a dentist can actually expect a 3 year old child to sit and endure fillings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
