Pamina, I've been a veggie forever (it seems like) and my daughter (now 12) is a lifelong veggie and I've never had problems with her wanting to eat meat in any form. Like louiseindevon's little boy my daughter is incredulous that anyone would ever want to eat meat. I expect my toddler to be the same. When attending parties I'd make a point of explaining her vegetarianism to the parents of the child whose party it was but I'd always try not make it a big deal for obvious reasons; our choice is not everybodies choice. When she was little she seemed to be the only child in a school of over 300 children who was veggie. Mostly people thought we were slightly odd, worried what they'd feed her and be grateful for simple suggestions. Now she is older she has lots of veggie friends and is forthright in explaining herself. It is quite interesting that after a lifetime of trying to get my mother to buy free range eggs (and not succeeding) my daughter managed it at 6 years old with a detailed, and matter of fact, account of the life of a battery hen! (I was never quite sure where she got her information from. I assume it was through overhearing a conversation I must have had at some point!)

Lisboa, I've written elsewhere that my veggie baby bible is by Rose Elliot but sadly out of print. If you go to the Vegetarian International Voice for Animals site (Viva!) they produce leaflets on vegetarian pregnancy and vegetarian babies. www.viva.org.uk/
