White crud behind baby's ears

Has anyone else experienced this with their baby? He has a bath every day. Hand he seems to get this flaky white crude behind both ears, no where else on his body. If I rub it in the bath is does come off in little bits but after a while he gets fed up with the rubbing and starts getting upset. What the hell is it?

Milk, it gathers there

Milk? DC2 (3mo) gets it if I don't remember to wash ears every day and so did DC1 when a baby too. I always assumed it was milk/dribble that went down cheeks and around.

Ahh milk, any ideas how to remove it better than rubbing if off in the bath? It's in all the dips behind his ears so can be a bit awkward to get off. Water seems to take Ages to get rid off it? I figure cotton wall buds dipped in?

It could also be cradle cap - DS had that behind his ears, it's quite common AFAIK.
