I pulled Jess out of nursery about 6 weeks ago now because it was just too much travelling and not worth the money.

We have paid up in advance and they actually owe us £6.04 plus a £75 deposit, so in total £81.04.

Im still waiting..... phoned the nursery today to be told a cheque is sitting waiting for me but the MD has to sign it and he isnt in the office this week and not sure if he will be in next week. Well, I was fuming by the time I got off the phone.

My SIL runs the nursery Jess went to so I phoned her to chat with her about it as she is off sick at the moment, to be told apparently the MD's dad is very ill and thats why he isnt about.

I know its sad and everything, but surely they have a duty to me to get me this cheque as soon as possible????

£80 is a lot of money to us at the moment and I have an electric bill of £83.85 to pay but cant until this cheque comes through.....

WHAT WOULD YOU ALL DO?

if you have an agreed overdraft at the bank, then yes go overdrawn, otherwise, bit naughty, but can you wait till the red electricity bill comes?

ring and explain that you need the money, surely one of the staff could take the cheque to the md, they must have other bills that need paying too, or could they pay you through petty cash.

try that and if doesn't work threaten them that you will take it further if they do not pay within so many days.

(can you SIL not get the cheque signed for you when she returns to work?)

Hassle some more. You're right. In a business, personal issues have to be put aside.

I had a similar thing with a £100 lamp I paid for and never received. Months later,I got the cheque back, with the lame excuse that the boss had been ill. (The shop had folded by this stage.)

its all so strange... SIL has no control over that side of things unfortunately and the woman i spoke to in the office says thast the MD is the only person auth gto sign the cheques and if the MD isnt in, there is nothing they can do.... apparently SIL says that if he doesnt show in the office, they wont get paid next month either..... SHOCKING.

I think i might have to wait for the red letter, but im scared because we go away at the end of next week so if the cheque turns up while im away, its another week i cant pay!

i think thats disgusting, that only the md can sign cheques,at our pre-school we have 3 authourised signautries, so there is always someone avaliable to sign cheques.

you wont get a red bill then for another week or two, so if you can hang on, wait until you get the red reminder, but also hassle the nursery in the meantime.

I'm disputing a bill with my leccy company at the moment, they didn't bother to tell me they weren't going to send a new (estimated) bill like they said they would, and just sent a red one instead. But, they have been quite aminiable (sp) with putting the account on hold. Would it not be worth a try ringing them and explaining that your having probs and could a hold be put on the account for a while? They'd appreciate knowing you aren't just ignoring the bill so might be able to help.
