Really annoyed with dickhead nursery

I know the title of this thread doesn't make much good sense but I'm feeling very cross! Dh took dd into nursery today with a bottle of sun protection cream as we were new to this nursery this year and I wasn't sure if they provided cream or not. Dh made a thing about telling the owner it was in dd's lunchbox when he dropped her off.

I picked her up this afty and it wasn't til I got home and indoors that I saw dd's arms, cheeks and scalp were pink. I asked her if she'd had any lotion on today and she said 'no'. I rang the nursery and the owner admitted dd hadn't had any lotion on but 'they'd only been outside for a little while' - despite me knowing that they'd played out twice and had their afternoon drinks outside too. She also said 'and we were in the shade'. When I said dd's arms were pink she said 'well maybe her arms weren't in the shade'. FFS!!! It's not like dd has arms like Mr Tickle or something! Owner blithered on 'we're very conscious about sun-safety here; we never go out between 12 and 2 on hot days and the children have to wear hats...' which is clearly nonsense. I told her the whole point I packed lotion for dd was that she HAS to have it on in the sun as she's so fair (but doesn't every child?!!) and she just said 'oh yes she must be, if she burned that quickly'. silly cow!

I would be fuming. I might even ask to see the carers qualifications agin to prove a point, but I am evil like that.

grrrrrrr.

i hope you put it on before she left.

could you get one of the all-day creams in future and apply it before she goes?

I would be absolutely furious - sun care is a topic close to my heart. If they did this I would write a formal letter of complaint.

It's utterly unacceptable that they let a child in their care sun burn.

Would be VERY annoyed. Ds1 goes to a sessional nursery (only morning) and they insist that in weather like this, children come lotioned up in the morning. They also put it on when they go out.

The more I think about this, the more I think I'd be livid.

I would be fuming - there are notices all around dd's nursery saying children must bring in hats and sunlotion and they put it on numerous times during the day.

thats disgusting, My Ds's nursery wont allow the children out if their parents have not brought suncream and a hat.
id be fuming too.

When I took dd this morning (after applying sunscreen at 7.30am!) the silly cow answered the door saying 'how are your arms, (dd)? I hope you'll be wearing a hat when we go out today' as if it was dd's fault!!! It's all I can do not to slap the woman at the moment. I get the distinct impression that she's a bullshit merchant but dd is only there for another 3 months before she starts a new pre-school so I will grin and bear it (and send dd along with long sleeved cheesecoth tops). She only attends 2 days a week anyway.

IF, however, we have a repetition of the suncream incident, I will be writing an offical letter of complaint. I will be asking dd for full details every day from now on and I will land on that woman like a tonne of bricks if I find anything else to rattle my cage. Do not cross a pregnant moomin !

Some nurseries will actually refuse to apply sun cream and that it should be applied before by parents, bit silly when suncreams all say apply regularly. Luckly I worked in one where had them all lined up to apply it before gooing out plus hats.
I would say pay a bit more for one of the all day creams and apply it any day there seems the slightest hint of sun, if there attitude is that bad guarenteed it will happen again.

I'm not sure about nurseries but I (as a childminder) have policies and procedures for everything. This of course includes a Health and Safety policy which mentions the sun protection etc. This is actually a requirement for childminders but maybe not for nurseries?? Just a thought as if they do have policies, maybe worth checking it.

I must admit I would be absolutely furious about their attitude and for them to blame your dd is even worse!

Keep an eye on them and good luck with it all!

Totally agree with you moomin. It is their responsibility to put on the cream. DD has come home from nursery every day this week completely black because she's been so covered in cream that all the dust has stuck to her. But I don't mind a bit if she's ok and unburnt

I work in a nursery and our health and saftey policy does include a policy about suncream. The parents either put suncream on before nursery or they supply suncream sprays and we apply this before the children go out to play. If a child has not put any on or supplied us with any we do have some that we use (we were told by our inspector we should not do this, but I would rather ignore this rulle then have a little one get burnt).

Dear Moomin-I'm sorry you're so cross but your letter is hilarious!!!

How refreshing to see someone tell it like it is!!!

The silly cow at the dickhead nursery sounds like a robot-no doubt quoting shite 'our policy' every time she's in trouble!!!

Hope your bubba's arms are ok.
