Nurseries

The lesser of two evils. Help

My two boys currently go to a lovely nursery for two full days a week. I run a business from home and desperately need a third day but the nursery can't accommodate them. I have been trying without any joy to hire a part time nanny for one day or two half days a week - but can not seem to get anyone.

There is another nursery - not nearly as nice but ok - nearby us that does have vacancies. Would it be better for me to put them into the new nursery for 3 days a week or leave them at their old nursery for two days and put them in the new nursery for one day? Which would be less unsettling?

My eldest is about to start preschool and I feel he has just settled into his nursery and is going for his trial sessions at the preschool part of the nursery so it seems to mean to uproot them again. But would going to two different places be more confusing for them and expose them to more different faces etc?

Am so tired of trying to sort this out.

have you considered a childminder?

I prefer Childminders, too.

What does the 2nd nursery advise?

Could you try the children in 2nd nursery on a few trial sessions? Some children actually enjoy or even prefer variety.

I don't know why but I'm slightly hesitant about going to a childminder - I just don't know how you know if they're good or what goes on in their house while you're not there. But I've even looked into some local childminders and they're all full or have space for one but not both.

Given their behaviour today, am ready to pay someone a million dollars to have them. sigh

Even with a nursery you have to trust your gut feelings about whether the people there are nice enough to look after your DCs. It's similar with childminders, and they are Ofsted inspected and vetted, at least.

Personal recommendation is best for finding a good CM, but a good one won't mind you visiting her when she's got some mindees with her, so you can just observe for yourself what her style is like. Find out what she does all day, etc.

I know my DS could handle 2 nurseries, but not my DD. So you will have to figure out what to do that works for your DCs. Good luck.
