Present for nursery? help!

Am I meant to give the nursery staff Christmas presents? If so, what kind of thing do you give and of what value?

It's a bit tricky because DS has two key workers - one fabulous one in the mornings who has been there from the start and is like a beloved granny to him; but he key worker for the afternoons has actually changed several times, the current one is OK but not anything like as important to him as "granny". After Christmas he will be moving out of the baby room so I have extra reason to want to say a big thank you to "granny". But it would look odd to give her a lovely pressie and something lesser or not at all to the other. Or do you just give something to the nursery in general? Or would it be just as good to write a heartfelt card about how much we have appreciated her?

It's not the cost I'm worried about so much, just that I find this sort of thing so awkward and embarrrassing and don't want to get it wrong. Urrrggh. Experienced nursery users, or nursery staff, what should I do?

I gave cards to individual staff and bought a couple of puppets like this for the nursery baby room as a whole -

Ah that's a great idea - toys for the nursery to use. Did it go down well?

yeah - think so!!! He was leaving as well and had always enjoyed the puppets. TBH, I felt awkward to buy an individal pressy, even though the keyworkers are so good it's not just them that looked after him. I thought it would be simpler to by something for the nusey rather than staff - they seemed to be getting loads of tins of choccy anyway, so unless you know them very well I imagine it would be the usual bath, choccy, drink type pressy - which I hate!

I bought all of dd1's workers who were in the room that she was in a gift - just something a little more special for her key worker iyswim. That changed through the year she was there so I also gave something to the original key worker who had been so brilliant helping dd1 settle in and care for her - she has sn.

could you not wrap the gift for the 'granny' in christmas paper but do it as a thank you gift iyswim and then get something for the room/all the workers as a christmas something.
