Nurseries

thinking of reducing dd's nursery hours - anyone else tried this?

I currently work 4 days a week, with 1 day (monday) from home. I'm a computer programmer so don't have to spend long on the phone. DD goes to nursery for 4 full days. For the last 2 monday mornings I've not taken her until nearly lunch time - she's been happy at home, playing with her toys and watching a bit of tv. Yesterday I got a letter from her nursery saying they are putting the fees up another 12 pounds a month! They increase twice a year - usually about 7 pounds a time. I take it this is a normal kind of increase, but we're struggling now slightly with a bigger mortgage as well! I am tempted to just book her in for a half day monday instead of a full day, and have her at home in the morning with me working (I could make up any lost time in the evening). Has anyone else tried this? DD is 3.5 btw.

yes and found it perfectly ok - both from nursery and dd's perspective.

hi paddington, I also work around my toddler quite regularly - I am a freelance translator, and when work comes in it doesn't always fit into the nursery sessions he does.
It's not great really, but that is because ds is quite pesky and doesn't play much on his own, so he watches too much telly. Another thing I have considered (but not done yet) is to work from the soft play centre and take dh's 3G phone with me which would give me broadband speed internet on my laptop.
Generally thouh I prefer to just catch up with it in the evenings, I do an hour early on, then spend a bit of time with dh, and then do another hour or two once he's gone to bed.

thanks guys, I might give it a go - dd does play on her own quite well now she's a bit older. I don't think her nursery is full at the mo so if it didn't work I could always put her back in, but I'd try not to. Also my friend is hoping to become a childminder soon so that would be another option! dd likes her nursery but does prefer staying at home even if she doesn't always have my attention.
