Hi, can someone help.. Looking for a nursery for our 18 month old girl, just for a couple of afternoons a week (she is getting increasingly bored with mum's face). But the task of finding/choosing the 'right' one is daunting, I don't even know where to start! I only know that we should be prepared to pay around 40 pounds per afternoon But anything for the best possible care for her, really. We live in E1 area and would be greatful for any advice/experience you could share about the nurseries in the area.

Nurseries are generally full-day deals, in my experience.

I think there's a good one down in Wapping, though, if that works for you. Alternatively, there's Scallywags, which is a childcare co-op just west of Vicky park. Much much much cheaper than a nursery, only mornings, but a really nice environment.

You should really ask on the thnct yahoo group - it's tower hamlets in NCT.

My dd2's nursery is the Bath House in Shacklewell Lane E8, and is absolutely fantastic. Don't know that they do afternoons only, but you could ask. Mornings only not a problem, though there is a waiting list.

£40 per afternoon sounds like a lot of money. I pay somewhere in the region of £28 per day for 9am to 3.15pm, ie. school hours.

Thank you both very much, I will check those. I don't have a car so the place should have public transport near.

I've heard good things about one that is down near St Katherines Dock...ooh, can't think of the name, but I'll try and dredge it up if you are interested in that location.

There is also a really good co-op run day care called the Victoria Park Creche, which is all day and cheap, with less obligations on you than Scallywags.

There is a nursery on Dock Street, think it's called Dock Street nursery (!!). One of my colleagues had his little boy there and seemed very happy with it...

Um, Victoria Park Creche is not Ofsted-registered, and not insured. Not legal, basically. I do know people who've used them, but I'm worried that someday there will be a fire or something and it will all go horribly wrong.

They've been putting up notices everywhere lately, and I am surprised nobody has reported them.
