help! cannot deal with this much longer.

my 2 year old son goes to a nursery about 2 minite walk from our house. hes been going since Sept. he loves it. he goes a day and a half a week so I can get some coursework done (home study student). when I come to pick him up, he says bye nicely. get just outside the gates and he kicks and screams and refuses to walk (he has no problem walking. haven't used his pushchair for a while) and when I ask him to walk he shouts no and is really badly behaved. this resutls in me having to carry him a little then placing him down to walk. he just refuses to move! so after a 20 min walk that should be 2, he continues to be horrible at home. he is usually very well behaved but just when he walks home and a bit after. what should I do?

Do you think you could take the pushchair when you pick him up? Would he still go in it? I don't know whether you would consider it a backward step, but I'm sure I was still using the buggy for my dc at 2 and even 3, if it was quicker, or they were tired. Maybe if you always turn up at nursery with it, he'll decide on his own that he wants to be a big boy and walk!

Take a snack with you and feed him on the way home. He is likely to be tired and hungry at the end of a nursery session.

I think sometimes they have used up all their energy behaving and trying really hard at nursery and just find it really hard to keep control when we collect them! I would take buggy - life is too short to stress about it. My DD has just started school (young for her year) and I have reinstated buggy board to get home as she is too knackered. She hops on and off it - and my DS hops in and out buggy (age 2.5). Means we walk (mainly) and I keep sane. They can, and do walk for miles but it just take pressure off to have transport. My 4 year old behaves really well at school. He was on steroid inhalers a few weeks ago and was quite hyper. He struggled to behave when he got home and I asked him how he was managing at school. He said, 'It is really hard Mummy and I just can't keep it in anymore'. I think a kids feel this a lot when they come out of school / nursery, even without the steroids!
