I looked at the Ofsted site in the end - it was the easiest way to find a list of all preschools close to me and also gives you a feel for each one as you can look at the reports.

We visited one this afternoon and I instantly had a good feeling about it. The manager was very pleasant indeed and the staff seemed fine. The facilities were pretty basic but ds was extremely happy to see different toys, sand and paint. I wanted a more play based place and this certainly seems that way. It is in fact the creche of a local adult education centre but changing over to taking outside children as well.

I am still going to look at a few others but this one is literally minutes away from me, so probably too handy to ignore. I may find a more structured one for when he is a bit older, perhaps.

We had been there 10 minutes when ds said "Ok mummy, you can go now" Shock :)

Thanks to those who encouraged / advised me on my previous thread.

FAZ, I would go with your instinct and not necessarily pay too much attention to Ofsted reports tbh. Visit the other nurseries and then see what you think. Can you get opinions from other parents who go to the nurseries in your area?

We are extremely limited on hte nursery/playgroup front here. The playgroup dd went to insisted that it's 5 mornings or nothing but we knew they had a shortfall so we said 3 mornings a week or nothing. It's too much at 2.5/3 years old imo. We were right as dd's 'other' 2 days were then taken up by a neighbour. This playgroup now takes 2 year olds!!

Fortunately for us we have a good nursery school here so dd transferred to that when she was 3.5 (more importantly she was very ready for it)

Yes I agree Mercy, the Ofsted reports do give you a feel for the place though and give you an idea about whether they are very academic, or more pastoral.

That was the other thing - they don't mind if he only goes one session a week, and they don't mind if he goes there and another place as well. I might split the sessions (when he is ready for more than one session) between this one and a more academic one which might have more equipment. This one is so darn near I have got to take advantage, really :)
