Sun cream

My DS's nursery have said they won't put sun cream on him, is this normal?

No - normal is that they ask you to give written permission (ie sign a form) and provide suncream.

That is for a day nursery - not sure about a school nursery althoguh this is only 2 hours so could do it before he goes.

I could not have my very fair 1yo who has been at nursery since 8am playing out this afternoon without any cream on.

When I was in teaching we were not allowed to put suncream on the kids, but I taught in a junior school not an infants / nursery school.

My DD is very fair as well, and I can see that I'm going to have to turn up at lunch time just to put some suncream on her to make she sure doesn't burn to a crisp in the afternoon.

Yes they don't seem to do it at DS's school. But he is a bit older and a bit tougher skinned. I put it on him in the morning and then either me or the CM put it on after school. Although I realise this is missing out the warmest part of the day when he is playing out longest - lunchtime.

How old is your DS zubin?

He is only just 2 and is quite fair skinned. I thought I would need to sign it in but when my dh tried to give it to the nursery staff they said they weren't allowed to put it on.

Yes but saadia if they are at day nursery from 8 until 6 or whatever one application is not really enough. I would query it zubin.

Think I will, I know suncream is supposed to be waterproof but they told dh he had been in the paddling pool in the morning then been back outside after lunch so felt a bit concerned

When DD was at nursery last summer we used to have to take in sun lution clearly labelled and then they could apply it. They wouldn't apply a different one if it was forgotten etc.

Boots do a one a day in factor 40 that works for 6 hours.

each private nursery has their own policy regarding suncream
we have put it in our contract/admissions form and asked if we have parents consent to apply suncream. all parents do!
parents supply own cream.
its not a child protection issue at nursery because remember we change nappies, its more about alergic reactions etc.
you didnt say whether it is a private nursery or not, i assume so because your child is only 2.
it is ridiculous not to put cream on.
ask to speak to the manager.
