Semi or full fat milk given?

I thought toddlers should get full fat - but reading the guidlines for new nursery - they give semi skimmed or water?
Is this normal - I must admit I haven't asked his current nursery what they give.

Anywhere I've worked it's been full fat.
It's always been my understanding that you shouldn't give reduced fat dairy products to under 5's? Not sure where that came form though!

Full fat unless there is a reason not to.
Fat is needed to absorb the calcium.

The offical NHS book "Birth to Five" that you get given by your health visitor shortly after birth says "Use full-fat milk and dairy products until your child is five, although semi-skimmed milk can be introduced from two years of age, provided your child is a good eater and is growing well. Children under two need the extra fat and vitamins in full-fat dairy products. Skimmed milk is not suitable for children under five"

My dd is just 5 and has stopped drinking her milk at School because 2 girls have said it's 'Full fat milk' and not good for you.

ARGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
Milk and water have always been her drink and now she's worrying about fat. The same child told her that she had fat blood once.

ANYWAY, i always buy full fat milk.Smile

full fat has lots of vitamin d in it. I used to give semi but have gone back to whole for ds who is 3 and have started buying omega milk.

My son gets semi-skimmed - that was because I didn't want to buy 3 lots of milk longer than I had to as I have skimmed, dh has semi and until my ds was 2 he had full fat. However, he gets a rash with cows milk so I buy him goats milk now so am having to buy three lots of milk anyway!! So will probably buy him full fat goats milk rather than semi. I don't think it's a big deal once they're over 2 if they eat well.
