Dilemma re dd's nursery - what would you do?

Try to keep this brief:

April 2005,dd starts a local nursery school and settles in well but then they change their hours and we were forced to move her.

Chose local Private School with nursery attached where she's been since January and she loves it. She goes 5 mornings a week and four afternoons with childminder (dh on Friday afternoons). The big negative is that it's situated in an area bound by sandpits, quarries and landfill sites. The lorries thunder along the road, the car gets covered in crap and they've just announced they are opening a new landfill 100 yards from the nursery.

Childminder announces she's giving up soon and at the same time, dh and dd are nearly killed when a 2 foot piece of concrete flies off one of the lorries and smashes into dh's car on the way to dropping her off. Luckily only the car was damaged.

Before this, dh had moaned about the fact that his car was getting ruined and I was berating him and accusing him of being selfish in wanting to move her again. However, since this, I'm scared that a more serious accident will happen.

She's not due to start school till Sept 2007 so we have to decide what to do for the next 18 months. Choices appear to be:

  1. Leave her where she is and hope to find a c/minder who can take her after school and holidays

  1. find an alternative nursery school plus new childminder etc

  1. Send her to a traditional day nursery which is around £300 per month more .

Of these, number 2 is most appealing to me but I then still have the problem regarding holiday childcare.

Have contacted about ten childminders none of whom have vacancies. I have to make a decision within the next 2 weeks but really don't know what to do for the best.

Help!

Assuming that the lorry/nursery interface is the same/worsening, no.2 sounds fine, she will cope with a change, and you need a new C/M anyway unless she's at traditional daycare.
We have DD1 (3.5) starting at similar nursery attached to private school in April, and will be able to get holiday care at another local nursery. we live in a large town. The standard of care appears to far exceed the current nursery, (which BTW is more expensive than the private school nursery, even after factoring in pre-& after-school care and F/T holiday care)
You know what's best for you & yours!

madchad, thanks for your reply. We have decided to go the new school's open day on Saturday and then see how we feel after that.
