Girl aged 8
2 x navy blue pleated skirts

Q1, really liked quality and style. Initially concerned fastening button may be too fiddly, but it was fine when used.

Q2 garment was a good fit, sizing was perfect, although I ordered an 11 as child is very tall for her age.

Q3 child likes the skirts, wore them happily. This can be an issue as there are some styles she won't wear. Not an issue with these skirts.

Q4 the quality of the skirts was significantly better than other retailers previously used including asda, tesco and marks and Spencer's.

Q5 skirts have washed very well, stood up to school life with no problem still look like new

Q6 yes I am considering buying trutex for school uniform from September as a result of trying these skirts as they seen to be better value for money

Q7 yes I would have no problem recommending trutex to others

Older boys dark grey long trousers - age 13

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
I really liked that I could order based on the waist/leg length to get a perfect fit.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
The trousers fit very nicely. The button fastening is a bit fiddly.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
He likes it.

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
Excellent quality. Similar if not better quality than M&S/John Lewis.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?
very well. Dries nicely without creases. Haven't needed to iron them!

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?
Yes if the returns postage was free and they offered a good refunds policy so that I had plenty of time to send unworn stuff back for a refund (a bit like Boden).

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?
Yes.

Boy, aged 6, 2 x white polo shirts

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?

Feels good quality fabric, soft and a tad heavier than normal, white felt a bit on the dull side when compared to another make I bought to compare to, but after washing this difference disappears which was interesting

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?

Fit was on the large size, I ordered age 5-6 for my 6 yr old and it is roomy - at 5 he would have been swamped, but then I always buy larger anyway..

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?

Quite happy, can do the buttons up easily

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?

Actually I think it is better quality, see comments below, definitely better than supermarket brands which last 5 mins on my boy

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?

They wash very well, dried on the line they don't need ironing (so I brushed off the iron in the interests of testing you understand) but they are lovely to iron. No threads/loss of shape after 2 washes, again much better than supermarket brands

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?

Yes, not sure where you get it from though? Would also like to try the trousers

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?

Yes, happily

Tested: Two white Short Sleeve Non Iron Polycotton Blouses - 38"/96cm/Age 15-16

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
I liked them, they are nice crisp white shirts, not too heavy in weight, ideal for summer months. My dd's (12) first impression was they "were brilliant coz they didn't have pockets!"

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child? The sizing was accurate in terms of the correct size for my daughter, but as usual she is not in true sizing for her age, we always have to go bigger (age 14-16). She's not fat, was over 10 lbs when born and very long! They are the same size as the M&S ones we usually buy. Improvements - My dd hates labels (m&s print a label inside which she likes). I had to cut out the labels before she'd wear them.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item? My dd loves them, they are slightly longer in the body than the M&S ones she has they aren't boxy but aren't tight either which was good. The collar was nice and firm, and hasn't gone floppy in the wash. Her comment "these are the best shirts ever!"

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
The quality was great. I've washed them at least 5 times since I received them. They air dry lovely in this weather, but had to tumble dry one morning, as forgot to dry and they didn't shrink which was great. At the moment I'd say the quality was on par with M&S although the outer stitched seams on theirs have come undone, so will be interesting to see if the Trutex ones stand up to washing. Their tagline is "MADE TO LAST NON IRON BLOUSES WITH STRONGER SEAMS - WE TOP STITCH EVERY ARMHOLE AND SHOULDER TO STRENGTHEN THEM AGAINST EVERYDAY WEAR AND TEAR." so hopefully they will! Have never found a "non-iron" shirt ever to be non-iron. Therefore thought i'd mention that they iron nicely and don't take long with a hot(ish) iron.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life? They wash up well. I usually wash school shirts on a 30 degree wash as my children aren't too messy, they just need freshening. The whiteness seems to have stayed the same. Another couple of weeks might be a different story though! DD says they are comfortable, easy to move in.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again? I would definitely buy again, and intend to as my dd loves them. Only thing is have no idea of cost (couldn't find a price on web) this could be a deciding factor, if they were much more expensive.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children? I have already, will definitely also recommend to their schools as they are always looking for recommendations.

Overall. Am impressed, would (obviously) have been nice to try other uniform pieces but as we have the most distress finding nice fitting good quality blouses/shirts thought I'd try them. The size guides in the PDF's we were sent were easy to understand and the coding to order was easy (not sure if thats the way they usually do orders).

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?

Nice quality material, didn't feel flimsy, nice colour.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?

Fit really well. Ordered a larger size as he struggles getting jumpers over his head!

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?

He liked it I think. He's not really commented on it other than he can get it on and off easier.

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?

It's much better quality than the logo stuff I got from Tesco last year, as they went faded and slightly bobbly the first time they were washed!

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?

It's not been worn as much as I would like, as ordered jumpers and then the weather warmed up, but it's withstood being dragged around the playground and tied round his waist well, and has washed up like new every time.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?

Yes.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
I was very pleased with the style, and the thickness of the fabric.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
The sizing was perfect for DD. Maybe a tiny bit big on the waist, but she prefers it like that so she can tuck her shirt and tie(!) in.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
No complaints at all, so she must be happy with them.
They're not too long, so good for her, and not too short, so good for me!

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
It's definitely better quality. Because the material is so thick, it doesn't look all floppy and crumpled when she's been sitting down, unlike her others.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?
Very well. Still look the same as when we got them.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?
Yes, having seen the difference in how the skirts look at the end of the school day compared to the old ones, I will be getting both DCs uniforms from Trutex.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?
Yes.

Boy age 4, red polo shirt x 2

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike? seemed good quality, thick material. good colour. no specific dislikes

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child? no improvement needed at this point, but will get back to that after a few more wears and washes. the sizing was good, and long enough in the body which is sometimes a struggle with polo shirts. the shirts fit well.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item? he seems happy with it. To be fair while he was excited that he got some new school shirts in the post, I'm not sure if he noticed anything other than oh its a nice new shirt. but then he is 4.

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not? it seems a good quality. not overly stretchy after washing so far which is good. and no shrinkage that I've seen after drying in the dryer. it seems to hold its shape well. i'd say it is better than most we've bought in supermarkets and perhaps equal to some of the better quality ones we've purchased

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life? it is holding its shape well, no shrinkage in the dryer. colour seems good after a couple washes. holding up to day to day school life just fine

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again? yes, i would say that it is pretty good quality. can't remember the price but i would pay a bit more for a good quality shirt that holds shape and stays relatively nice looking rather than a cheaper shirt that fades and stretches or shrinks

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children? yes i would be comfortable to do that

Girl, 11 years; youth pencil skirts, charcoal.
First impressions: I thoght they looked smart, good quality and comfy
Sizing: I ordered age 12 and they absoluteoly swamped my average sized 1.5 year old.
She hates them and refused to wear them; understandable as they were way too big, but she thought they were uncomfortable and looked too old for her.
I think the quality is good, the stretch is nice and they look very smart. I would be confident they would last well enough to be handed down, which supermarket uniform rarely is.I can't comment on wear or washing, as she won't wear them.
I would buy from Trutex, but would want to be sure my daughter would like them or that they were regulation schooliform.
I wuld recommend, thank you so mcuh for the trial and hen my youngest gets big enough i am sure she will love them.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?

First impression was that the uniform was made from good strong material but it was soft and looked comfortable. The only thing I did not like is that you cant put it in the dryer

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?

The sizing was perfect I ordered for a 6 year old and the legth is perfect. I like the adjustable buttons as my daughter has a small waist

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?

My daughter likes it because its stain resistant and its black. She also said its comfy and not too short

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?

This is definatley better quality than any other skirts I have bought and you can see straight away that this item is made to last. I would like to try the trousers in the winter as my daughters knees fade straight away s I would like to see if the trousers are as good as the skirts.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?

My daughter is 6 so her uniform has to be washed everyday she always gets stains down her at lunch time and so far the skirts have been stain resistant and the colour has not faded

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?

Yes I would like to try the trousers and white polo shirts

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?

Yes I would recommend Trutex because the uniform is built to last and be comfortable

Thanks again for choosing us for this trial my daughter is very happy with her new skirts

1) First impressions were good, they looked like they were good quality and very smart.

2) I think they were a bit long in the leg and the material was a little stiff. They fitted dd on the waist and hips but were a bit long in the leg. I had to shorten them.

3) She liked the look of them but found them quite uncomfortable to wear.

4) I think the quality is very good, better than the supermarket brands I usually buy.

5) They wash well, and so far seem to be nearing up well to the battering of everyday school life.

6) Yes, if they were the right price.

7) Yes I would I think they're good quality.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike? - Shirt felt quite stiff coming out of the packet but felt lovely and fresh and new. Looked and felt good quality. Good first impression.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child? I ordered size 9-10 for my 8 year old daughter who is on about the 75th centile - it fits beautifully.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item? She says the buttons are small and quite hard to get hold of to do up but thinks she'd get used to them in time. Otherwise she says they are comfortable and she likes them.

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not? I like the quality, they seem better than other brands but obviously time will tell how they last after repeated wearing and washing.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life? So far, so well. My daughter is pretty crafty and gets covered in stuff and they've washed ok. I wouldn't say I can get away without ironing them but a superquick run-over with the iron was sufficient.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again? So far so good. Yes I would.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children? Yes I would.

2 pairs of grey trousers

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
First impressions were the quality of the material and the cut of the trousers.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
The sizing was adequate, bit big but will fit him for longer than others. Maybe buttons inside to make waistband smaller.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
He loves them as he says that the material seems as though it will hold up in the playground! Also they feel comfy.

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
Definitely better quality, thicker sturdier material and no bobbling after several washes.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?
Washed them a lot and there are no signs of fading or shrinkage. No signs of surrender from playground usage yet!

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?
Although they are more expensive than other brands, I think its well worth it as they last longer.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?
We are all on a budget but a pair of these would definitely outlast a pair of supermarket trousers so I think they are more economical and this is something my friends would be optimistic about.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?

Liked the feel of the material - felt very heavy duty (slightly rough but in a good way) and solid. We tend to have issues with seams, but these seem particularly well put together.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?

Not sure why they can't be washed using fabric conditioner. That's a pita as it means I either have to wash them separately or not use it for everything else in the wash (normally all the remaining uniform - including my work stuff!) As it happens the second time I accidentally did wash them using FC and can't see any noticeable degradation compared to the other pair... Blush Sizing is generous. Had to take the hems up a little.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?

Says they're fine (14yo boy, not going to get much else wrt uniform)

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?

It's definitely better than store brands. We usually go to a school outfitters due to age/size and I prefer the Trutex trouser material to the branded ones we buy there.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?

Washes very well (even with me messing up the washing instructions) and no problems with durability generally although at 14 DS2 isn't as rough on his clothes as he was in primary school - not a lunch-time football player.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?

Now I've had first-hand experience with it, yes and probably for DD's as well. It's a similar price to the school outfitters we usually go to and I like the convenience of on-line ordering. I'll keep an eye out for MNers who're trialling the girls uniform and the shirts! Grin

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?

Actually yes, to reflect something a poster said earlier - I'm not sure why I thought I knew how much the trousers are are I can't find the prices on the website. I can't even register to see if the prices turn up then as it refuses to recognise the name of my son's (fairly large, and very long established) secondary school so I won'be able to order anything from them. Might have to change my last answer then - can't recommend a product if it's impossible to purchase!

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
I liked the thickness of the material and my DD especially liked the zip pocket on the side. it felt like a good quality item.

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
The skirt was a reasonable size, the length was great and it was good to have an option of lengths to choose from. It was a little wide on the hips but my DD has very slim hips.

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
Enjoyed wearing it, especially because of the pocket!

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
Yes I think it does represent better quality than many other retailers, mainly due to thickness of material.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?
Washes well, no bobbles so far.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?
Yes. there is a shop local to me so I will be visiting there soon to get uniform for next year.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?
Yes due to high quality fabric. (That would probably be even more important for younger pupils due to playground games and carelessness!)

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?

good thick material, good nice grey -looked well made/sturdy crease looked quite clean-
Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
nightmare as elasticated waist - my v slight but tall child can only just about keep them up and in fact has mainly had to wear a belt with them which is not good at school

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
ok but doesn't like the elasticated waist

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?

think the fabric is significantly better than supermarket/next m& s cheap range. So far seems on par with m& s more expensive range.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?

so far so good although only washed a few times and as its summer they are not getting the full muddy knee experience...but have looked smart on re wash - no ironing of school uniform in this house !

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again? probably only if they have adjustable waist - and did single age sizing ..would also depend on price compared M&S who I usually end up with -although not quite as slim cut as expected at least they are not too baggy... the fabric does seem v good

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?

yes especially if their kids aren't too slight..

Girl, 8, black trousers.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? What did you like/dislike?
Impressed with the softness, quality of material, and cut. Liked the fact that there were no pointless pockets (one of my pet hates!).

Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child?
The only thing I could think of is that they are a bit thick for the summer term (well, at the moment anyway, they will probably be fine when it's freezing next week!). Could maybe do with a summer-weight version. Sizing was good (DD is very average in both size and weight). Fitted very well, especially around the bum, which was good as the M&S and supermarket brands tend to be cut low, giving her an unfortunate case of builder's bum, even though her bum's not particularly large!).

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item?
She really liked the softness and stretchiness - they were stretchier than her other trousers (M&S, Sainsburys mainly).

Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not?
Yes, definitely better quality. Would be lovely and thick for the winter.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life?
Washes and dries well, with no need for ironing, hurrah.

Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again?
I would need to find a supplier and see how much they cost. I did have a quick google, and on the first four attempts couldn't find the same trousers - they seemed to be in 'senior' or 'sturdy' sizes. I was a bit shocked by the price of those tbh, £15 plus is a lot for a pair of school trousers, the ones I buy are usually between £4 and £8 a pair.

Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children?
Yes in terms of quality, but would need to sort out availability and price concerns first.

My first impression of the skirts were that the quality was noticably better than my daughter's other skirts which had been purchased from supermarkets. The material was a good soft texture but was also hard-wearing.
Q2 Is there anything you think could be improved about any of the garment? How did you find the sizing? Did the garment you ordered fit your child? Yes, but I did measure my daughter before ordering, so I expected it to fit. My daughter is extremely tall for her age. I ordered an age 13 years skirt with a 26'' waist. It fitted perfectly, it was available in 3 lengths, and I chose the 18'' length which sits just above the knee.
Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform item? She loves it! She said that she feels very grown up! It is similar to a pencil skirt, but not as tight, and it has a small slit at the back. As a parent, I feel it is suitable for a girl, not 'too grown-up'. Just right.
Q4 What do you think of the quality of the uniform item? Do you think it is better quality than other brands/retailers you've bought or not? Without a shadow of a doubt it is better quality. It was the first thing I noticed as I opened the parcel. The material is heavier, more hard-wearing. The zip seems to be better quality too. I usually buy Sainsbury's or M&S school skirts, and whilst I cannot say I was unhappy with them, the Trutex skirts are superior quality.
Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing? And to day-to-day school life? No problems, washes well and no need for ironing! Bonus!
Q6 Do you think you would buy uniform from Trutex again? Definitely. I am really impressed with the quality. I think they will last much longer. My daughter starts senior school in September, and I will definitely be buying more Trutex products.
Q7 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Trutex uniform to your friends who have school-age children? Without a doubt. I wouldn't hesitate.

In addition two other things both my daughter and myself liked about the skirts were:
i) they didn't twist around during the day. So many other skirts do this.
ii) There was a pocket with a zip! Fabulous for tuck/drinks money. My DD either lost tuck money or forgot about it in her bag, so this zip pocket is great!

Thanks for the link AnnMumsnet.

Just a quick point of feedback to Trutex on that, why on earth do you have to register just to see what they are selling?!

That's making shoppers leap over a hurdle just to get through the front doors - you'll surely lose a lot of customers before they even set foot in the place?

I have to agree. When shopping online, I like to browse. I don't want to register to a site unless I'm actually definitely going to purchase. Often if I have to register to browse, I just won't bother. I will shop elsewhere.
