We have been asked by the team at British Red Cross to find 20 MNers who are able and willing to attend one of their First Aid courses and to add their feedback on MN. The courses are worth £45 outside of the M25 and £60 inside the M25 - selected MNers will attend FOC.

Each course lasts 5 hours (normally between 9am and 3pm for daytime courses and 7-9.30pm) across two consecutive evenings for evening courses. The course is designed to teach you the steps in a number of emergency situations for babies and children including: dealing with an emergency, unconsciousness, choking, bleeding, burns, seizures and more.

The course is aimed at people who are expectant parents, or parents and carers (eg grandparents) of children from birth to 12 years.

They say "Our Baby and Child First Aid courses run from over 50 venues across the UK - we are keen for Mumsnetters to review the course and their experience of learning first aid skills and share them with other members of MN. Our purpose of doing this is to encourage more people to learn lifesaving skills and have the confidence to use them in an emergency when needed. The courses run Mon-Fri during the day or across two evenings, or on a Saturday. Availability of dates and times does vary by venue".

More info on courses can be found here:

I would have loved to have done this, shame about the London dates, 10th is too close (we already have plans) and 27th is during half term so I would have the children in tow.

Just done a paediatric first aid course. I would definitely reccomend to anyone especially the over anxious like me

It will simultaneously scare the shit out of you, and give you more confidence

All these threads on MN asking what to do about DC injury/should they go to A&E - if you do the course you'll know the answers.

So do it do it do it! Grin

I did this course while pg. DD was born with reflux. I put what I learnt into practice, and was able to stop DD choking on her own vomit when she was just 10 days old.

It's a great course and I'd recommend it to everyone!

My husband has just filled in for NI Bike, I'm due at the end of May so the timing is perfect and I think it'd give him peace of mind. Wish I could attend myself but that might be tricky!

Would have like to sign up for Belfast but not sure of work atm. I think this is a great idea though. So many training courses run with funding and don't properly evaluate the results. Very encouraged that people already through this training are recommending it.
