This thread is for the 22 Mumsnetters who got to try out the TASSIMO Vivy.

Here’s what TASSIMO say, “Whether you’re a Latte Lover or a Cappuccino Connoisseur, TASSIMO has all your favourite drinks from the brands you love. Imagine having Costa, Cadbury, Kenco, Twinings, Milka, Carte Noire and Suchard on your doorstep!

The new TASSIMO Vivy is the most compact machine in the range and is the perfect addition to any kitchen. Designed for those that love coffee shop quality hot drinks at home but need something a little more discreet the Vivy allows for those with smaller kitchens to enjoy the TASSIMO drinks they love.”

Non-testers: How do you like to enjoy your favourite hot drink? Are you a caffeine addict who loves a cup of coffee in the morning? Or maybe you prefer to make yourself a perfect hot chocolate at home in the evenings? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNers will win their own TASSIMO Vivy!

Testers: It would be great if you could answer the questions below. If you have any other comments please feel free to add these too:

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?
  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?
  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

My favourite hot drink is coffee. At the moment I'm drinking a Machu Picchu one by Cafe Direct. Absolutely perfect.

I need coffee in the mornings but then I like tea and the occasional hot chocolate in the evenings.

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes overall I love it, great size and really easy to use.

  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?

Carte noir, kenco, suchard hot chocolate and tea. I would say the hot chocolate was my favorite however I've purchased other coffee ones (Costa latte) that are the nicest.

  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?

Extremly easy, in fact my 4 year old DN can use it (obviously closely supervised).

  • Do you think youll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes but not for tea (I think tea is better from a ketttle where you can make to your own strength. Also the kenco coffee tasted too much like instant and in my opinion was not worth the extra expense of the discs. I will definately still use it for 'posh' coffee and hiot cholates though.

  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. I love it.

Good old Costa Americano. Either plain and black run through twice or as a latte with same amount of milk as one run though.

Nothing like a smooth black Americano to start the day. I used to be a real coffee addict but limit it to one a day now having a few cups of tea throughout the day.

My favourite hot drink is steamed hot milk with a splash of vanilla syrup and a generous dusting of cinammon. It's the most comforting thing in the world, especially when propped up in bed, like a big hug in a mug

What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?

I liked it, the machine is small and neat; I thought the water container was 'flimsy' and struggled to get it into place the first couple of times until I got the knack of tipping it, but on the whole it looks lovely and shiny. I think it looks like it would fit into any kitchen and not look out of place

  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?

we got kenco, suchards hot chocolate, café crème and breakfast tea, the hot chocolate was a favourite with the children, the coffee with OH. If I am honest I wasn't impressed with any them but I think if I were to buy discs I wouldn't choose any of those anyway but would go for the latte type drinks, I think it was probably a poor selection to send out for product testing

  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?

It was very easy to use, the instructions in pictures were poor and we had to resort to looking on the Tassimo website to find out how to add more water to the half cups that we got on some of the drinks selections. Simple written instructions are far easier to follow and when I buy any product I expect clear instructions on how to use it, sadly more manufacturers seem to be going into this picture thing meaning that products are not being used to their full potential. I was appalled at the first half cup of coffee and thought it was rubbish until my daughter looked on the website to find that you could add more water - this was not clear on the pictures.

  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Personally - no, however my daughter is in love with it and will use it long term with latte discs, which I hope she will share occasionally! I rarely make only 1 cup of anything so, for me, it is far quicker to put the kettle on and make cups or a cafetierre (sp ) I think if I was making a drink just for myself on a regular basis then yes, I definitely would use it.

  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would recommend it as the machine is lovely and I am sure the better quality discs will be far nicer. I would put across my view that if you were making several drinks it would be slow and fiddly but for maybe a couple at a time then it would be definitely worth the money.

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?

I love the size of the machine, very neat and compact.

  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?

Was sent the same t-discs as the other testers. Have also ordered others which I haven't tried yet.
The children love the hot chocolate.
I love the twining a tea, DH loved both coffees.
I personally thought that the hot chocolate tasted watery, however have ordered some milk creamer discs s o hoping these give the chocolate a creamier/milkier taste.

  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?

The machine is easy peasy to use. My 6 and 7 year old can do it without any help and I personally think it's much safer than making a drink with the kettle.
As another tester mentioned I didn't realise you could 'top up' the drinks (which only filled to half way in my mugs) so ordered new mugs!! I now realise that you can top up but still can't quite get the hang of it! Blush

  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes! As a family we love it. Have ordered about a months worth of drinks for the machine and will pick them up when I see them on offer.

  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I have already recommended to friends and family and let them try a cup from mine. Grin

It has to be a good old cup of tea Grin. Usually made straight into a mug but does taste better from a teapot (or if someone else makes it Wink). I like it strong enough to stand a spoon up in and it's one of the few things that I always buy the same brand - PG tips or Dorset tea.

I very rarely drink coffee but do like a hot chocolate now and again.

Non-tester How do you like to enjoy your favourite hot drink?

I am also a big fan of a chai latte which I make myself at home with a tea masala mix that contains lots of spices including ground ginger and cinnamon. The key is letting the tea simmer so all the spices are infused. It is amazing! I also love a mocha or hot chocolate when I'm out with lots of whipped cream (although only as a treat!).

There are times when I really want one particular drink and nothing else is good enough although I wouldn't want to drink those drinks all the time. If I crave a coffee it is usually a black Americano or a good lungo with a spoonful of coconut oil in. Earl Grey with lavender or rose is so refreshing in hot weather. I don't like milky drinks so all the lattes, mochas, etc are out.

The thing I could not live without though is bog standard builders tea. When I go on holiday I find I have an unquenchable thirst no matter what else I drink when I can't get it

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?

I thought that the Tassimo Vivy was very compact, visually appealling and looked nice in the kitchen. My husband didn't expect the tassimo to be so small and really liked the look of it.

  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?

We were sent the breakfast tea, kenco coffee, cafe creme and suchards hot chocolate. We have tried all the discs.

Overall we didn't have a favourite out of all the discs. The vote would probably go to hot chocolate.

The youngest in my family liked the hot chocolate, my eldest didn't like the hot chocolate. He said it was very watery. I agree with the comment about it tasting watery, however, it was drinkable but not as nice as what we get in the coffee shops. My husband liked the taste of the kenco coffee and finds it very similar to what he gets in mcdonalds in the morning. The cafe creme was okay - it tasted very strong. I didn't like the breakfast tea - it isn't something that I would make in the tassimo.

  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?

The machine is really easy to use. I didn't know about adding more water. Will probably have to work out how to do that. However, it was really easy to set up and is so quick to use. My husband can grab a quick coffee in the morning before he goes out to work in seconds - which is so handy and convenient and means he doesn't need to stop off to buy one. The instructions that they give with packaging isn't very clear - so we are unsure if we are using it correctly. I didn't know that you could remove the cup holder and that this would adjust the amount of water in a cup?? I think that you need to look online to find out more information.

  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would continue to use the Tassimo in the future. I think I will purchase some Costa discs and might try and different type of hot chocolate. It would depend how easy they are to use and what the results are.

  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would I recommend the Tassimo to friends and family - yes. It is very convenient. I am not sure that the drinks are like what you can buy in a coffee shop - will try a different type of disc to find out.

How do you like to enjoy your favourite hot drink?

Made very hot but then given some time to cool. It's a bit disappointing to be given lukewarm drinks in coffee establishments.

Where possible, I like my hot drink fresh. Fresh tea, fresh beans. I obviously cant have this all the time so its instant a lot at home, but I do enjoy freshly ground coffee. Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance is good too.

Best coffees are in independent retailers on a Saturday afternoon or a Sunday morning whilst I read the papers and the DC's are entertained. Bliss.

None-tester - I had the best hot chocolate ever last night. It came on a wooden spoon and was a lump of Belgian chocolate. Wonderful.

My virtue drink is a miso soup!
