TalkTalk has asked us to find 20 Mumsnetters to test out their TV service.

Here's what TalkTalk have to say about their service, "As Britain's fastest growing TV service more families are joining TalkTalk TV than ever before, taking up our offer of a free YouView box for easy access to the shows they love. Our TalkTalk TV package includes a YouView box worth £299, providing seven day catch up TV, pause, rewind and record Freeview channels, plus the option to add premium content one month at a time with TalkTalk's flexible boosts. This includes 69 TV channels not available on BT including a variety of kids content. Our toddler's channel Scamp includes our two most popular shows Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly, and there are thousands more TV shows and box sets in our TalkTalk Player. Our Kids Boost, which is only £5 a month, provides an additional 14 great children's channels including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Cartoon Network. It's great to see how much our customers are enjoying all the benefits of YouView from TalkTalk and this summer we're hoping even more families, including yours, will join them!'"

This is open to all UK MNers who:

  • Are existing phone and broadband TalkTalk customers
  • Have at least 4MB of broadband available and a fast enough connection (TalkTalk will assess this if you're selected to take part)
  • Have at least one child aged 2-12 years at home
  • Are available over the next few months to trial the service

If you're selected to take part you'll receive:
  • A YouView box (worth £299), sent to you by post. You'll need to install this yourself but you can call TalkTalk if you need help
  • 3 months of TalkTalk's TV package worth £35/month
  • 3 months of Kids Boost TalkTalk TV service worth £5/month

In exchange, you will need to give feedback on a thread on MN at the start of the trial and then again at the end.

Five of the selected Mumsnetters will also need to film parts of their feedback and post them on Mumsnet. Those MNers will receive an additional £50 TalkTalk TV credit to use as a thank you for filming.

At the end of the trial, there is no commitment to continue subscribing to the TalkTalk TV service.

If you're interested in taking part then please sign up here.

Many thanks,

MNHQ

I have just taken this out and after a farrago with adaptors and our billing I'm a bit Hmm.

Also, our broadband is only about 3.2mb and I've been told it should work fine, so VERY interested to see that they've said 4mb minimum for the testers!

Watching this thread with interest...

I'd love to try this, we've been thinking about sky but since we're talk talk customers anyway, it would be interesting to see what the tv packages are like.
Dh just said we have more than 4mb, but now I'm not sure.....

no, like others our experience of talktalk has been awful. our connection ranges from 3ish to 0, with no warning. interesting that they are cherrypicking those with 4 plus Hmm

I am very tempted but have had shocking experience twice with talktalk. I have no idea why DH thought it was a good idea to sign up with them again, we have been well and truly pissed off messed around.

TalkTalk have asked us to post the following, "We’re so sorry to hear that some of you have had problems or are experiencing problems with TalkTalk, and would really like the chance to make it up to you. We have been working hard to improve our performance in customer service, and are seeing fewer complaints as a result, but we know that from time to time unfortunately problems can still occur and we would really like to investigate the problems you have mentioned. Please could you let Mumsnet know what happened and when, and include your contact details.
Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for any problems you have had or are experiencing with us."

michelle how do i go about letting you know? Ive made complaints but talk talk have never responded. Its taking me over a year to sort the talk talk issue out.and going round in circles.

Well, I am not with talk talk so couldn't do this anyway, but I'd like to say thank you as it has helped me make the decision not to go with them! Have bt vision at the moment, but have had bad service from bt so were thinking of moving to talk talk. We won't be now!

Tortoise · 12/09/2013 17:23

I've been with talktalk for a while for broadband, phone and mobile and not had any problems at all with the service or customer services any time I've needed help.

Report
NaturalBaby · 12/09/2013 18:33

They're seeing fewer complaints because it's pretty impossible to complain!

What happened - we couldn't speak to anyone who seemed to understand a word of what we were saying, we had no response from emails, letters were eventually responded to weeks later without actually referring to anything we had written about, we had no landline or internet when for 2 weeks when we moved house, they've replaced our landline number with a random new number and we are tied in for 12months because by the time we had internet connection it was too late to back out of the contract.

I thought talktalk had learned their lesson about customer service but nothing has changed - we were customers of theirs the last time they got into trouble about customer service.

Ha, I was coming on this thread to say how shit talk talk is. I see others had the same idea...

Report

I was also coming on this thread to comment about talk talk, this thread is providing some strong feedback for them. We originally suffered with random service connection believing it was the area we lived in, then called in with a fault, trying to get through to a human required jumping through hoops, when we did communication was terribly poor and we were asked to jump through further hoops. My oh understands IT and had to teach the technician. When we switched services we learned that our area was not poorly served. I don't want a service to improve from my complaint, I will just move services to one that doesn't make me angry!

Report
BillStickersIsInnocent · 12/09/2013 23:46

Yup, terrible service. Failed to cancel a landline despite being requested repeatedly, kept taking money from my account and kept the interest of course no desire to get it sorted, no real apology.

Wouldn't go with them again for all the tea in China.

I have tried becoming a TAlkTalk customer but they don't offer their services in my rural Scottish location. If I would live 2 miles further north I would be ok but it seems we are at the mercy of BT or SKY at exorbitant costs.Angry

Yes, me too. Wouldn't have them again if they were free.
While I had Tiscali/talk talk the actual service provided was ok, but when I changed banks it went wrong. And was never right afterwards.
I changed my DD details, and they updated on the BOS website, then they cancelled it for no reason, then disconnected me for non payment, got that sorted but was disconnected on a monthly basis as they kept cancelling. Eventually got sorted but got fed up and moved to SKY. (Was yrs out of contract at that point) Had umpteen letters/complaints to try and sort it out. Was completely up to date with account, and had commenced SKY service. But I was billed and sent alternative final demand notices or "we are sorry you want to leave us" letters every few weeks and it took 9 months for them stop. And that was only after I contacted the MD.
