This thread is for the 200 Mumsnetters who have been trying the new Primula PODs with their DCs. Below are a few questions to get you started but please feel free to add any other comments you may also have.

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £150 Debenhams voucher.

The first few questions are about the Primula Cheese PODs:
Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website //www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

Thanks and good luck,

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Me (34) and ds1 (7)
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture - nice, like a firm cheese. Not greasy.
  • Taste - ds1 like the original, wouldn't touch the Cheese N Chive (because o the dark bits).
  • Packaging - easy to open by kids. Easy to pop into handbag. Very plasticky - can you recycle them?

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
No, I'd never cook with such tiny cheeses (waste of packaging, too expensive). We use a proper cheese for that!
Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
After school snack. On bus journey.
Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
I should hope all cheese would be a 'good source of calcium'
Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Healthy - low in salt and sugar. Good value. Larger portions that you get at the moment!
Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
maybe - for a picnic or something. They don't have the 'all round' appeal, that say Babybel does though.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
ds1 loved the 'Games Zone' area - basically a rip off of Club Penguin! Loading time is VERY slow though and navigation is crap if you want to return to the main website.
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?
Faster loading time. He wanted to be able to save his colouring in and/or print it out. Once you'd completed the colouring in game, you couldn't actually see the picture you'd created.

Well. I can certainly say I was sceptical about these as I find many of the child friendly cheeses plastic and boring (and I've tried most of them out there as I love the idea of them for lunchboxes etc) but the pods have been a total hit in our household!
PRIMULA PODS
Q1 - Myself, my 3 year old, 9 month old and my parents all tried one when they arrived this morning!
Q2 - Both flavours were well received!
Q3 - The packaging was great. Had real child appeal and unlike many of its similar cheeses on the market, my 3 year old could open it by himself really quickly which was great for lunch boxes. The texture was much less plastic than cheese strings and babybels and tasted like a solid form of primula cheese spread which was a winner all round!
Q4 - I will be buying Primula pods - they are the nicest of the 'lunchbox' cheeses out there in terms of taste, child appeal and ease of opening. My 3 year old refuses babybels and cheese strings but wolfed 2 of these down in quick succession and they were a good, soft texture with decent flavour for my 9 month old.
Q5 - The cheese didn't hang around long enough to make it on to a pizza but would def try it in the future!
POD ISLAND
In general, the website looks colourful and appealing but I think it was a little wordy for my 3 year old - he spent a lot of time saying, what does this say, can you read it and then getting a bit bored as I started to read though the cartoons. He enjoyed the colouring section and I think as he gets a little older (and more patient?!) he would enjoy the other sections too.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
I ate one, dd ate one and DS had eaten lots. At first we were all quite keen?

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture -DS loved them, dd did not. I was not a fan.
  • Taste - as above
  • Packaging - this we all liked. Kids can open them really easily.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
We did our own take on them. Dd doesn't like them as they are but loves it melted on a crumpet with syrup. She is a bit strange. DS would eat them all day in any form.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
They were eaten on the run after school and before clubs and in packed lunch.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Yes it would. My two dont drink a lot of milk so I like other ways to get calcium into them.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Little packaging, all packaging to be recyclable and easy to open. Healthy and tasty too.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Yes I would probably. Because they are so easy for kids to open!

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk

Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
They liked the way it looked. Def appealed to them. They both favoured the game zone.
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?
I know it sounds silly but any chance you can not use flash? Kids like to play websites on the ipad and I had to boot up the laptop for this.

agree letsbeadiva - they've really missed a trick by making the site in Flash!! Made it very slow to load as well. What about html5?

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

We all tried them. My husband and I both tried the cheese and herb ones, the children the plain ones. We all really enjoyed the taste although it was probably a bit too plasticy for my husband, who prefers really strong, stinky cheese. The children like the flavour and the way of opening them.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture

The texture was good and they were easy to eat.
  • Taste

We enjoyed the taste but, dare I say it, they tasted exactly like Baby Bel which we have always loved. A good thing but the taste is not original.
  • Packaging

Very clever way of opening them - easy for all of us.
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
No. We ate all the cheese supplied quite quickly as we liked it and are generally greedy.
Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
We had the PODS as soon as they arrived and kept a few back for lunch boxes. They would make a good treat but my children are older (10 and 12) so would probably need more than one and toast as well.
Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Not really - all cheese is a good source of calcium, as is milk, butter etc. We eat plenty of it and would enjoy a different type but it won't make us eat more cheese.
Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Easy to open (this ticked the box), reasonably healthy, tasty.
Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Yes, particularly for younger kids. They would be idea for picnics or for the beach and will be great in lunch boxes. Have nothing bad to say about them. Haven't looked at the price but that might be an issue as we usually buy cheese in large, cheaper blocks.

We looked at the website. TBH it seemed aimed at younger children than mine so they had a quick look, played a couple of games and then wandered off.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
I did, ds (9) and dd(12)
The kids both thought they were a less good babybel.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture - both kids said it was very plasticky and didn't like it.
  • Taste - ds said it tasted of fake cheese, like a cross between a cheese triangle and a babybel. Dd didnt like it, but doesn't generally eat cheese anyway.
  • Packaging - we all liked the packaging they were really easy to open.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? Not yet, it we will be doing as it will be the only way to use up the rest of the cheese since no one wants to eat it as it is.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc -
As part of lunch.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
No. None of us liked the taste or texture of the product.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Natural, tasting like real food and not dumbed down taste wise for children.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
No - we didn't like them.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
They felt it was for much younger children. They had a bit of a look round but my 9yo said it was very childish.

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?
There needs to be more for older children to do.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
We didn't use any recipe's, my kids aren't keen on cooked cheese, especially when it's quite processed.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
Eaten as an after school snack and sent some in their lunch boxes.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
No, my kids mainline milk, I don't have any concerns about them not getting enough calcium.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
I want more natural products, nothing too processed.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
No, didn't taste great and very processed.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk

Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
They both loved the website and fought over who would play first, they mainly stayed in the gamezone, they will be visiting again.

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

The kids also commented about the strong smell.

They liked the packaging - easy for them to open.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?

We did'nt get the chance to try a recipe because they enjoyed them as a snack so often and with their lunch that they got eaten too quickly.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc

As morning snack with apple and with lunch.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Myself and DD1 (5). Initial impressions were that they looked OK, not very eye catching.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging

Packaging was good, I love the way they open, its very easy especially for children without getting cheese everywhere. The colours are a bit dull though. I liked the taste although they didn't taste very 'cheesy' or natural in my opinion. DD didn't like the cheese and chive flavour and then later decided she wasn't keen on the plain either. Texture was rubbery.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
Not yet but I love the idea. It is something I would definitely consider looking at again.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
After school snack.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Yes (for me) because I don't like milk so cheese is mostly where I get calcium from.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Easy to open, natural flavours, colours etc. Not messy. Healthy.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
I would mention them more for the easy opening/practicality more then the taste..

Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
She liked the music and games and the colouring in. I think its really good for her age but might be a bit boring for older children. She hardly ever goes on the laptop with me so its not something that is important to me.

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

No, I didn't try the recipes because we weren't really that charmed with the cheese.

DD (7), DS (3) and me

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture

DD liked the packaging and found it easy to open but I struggled a bit, must be my old fat fingers. None of us liked the taste, it had that floury bland taste of cheese spread. Not as nice as babybels.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?

No. I don't cook with these little cheeses. If I buy them I buy them for lunchboxes not to cook with.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc

After school snack

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?

Lots of things are also a good source of calcium and they taste better too.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?

Healthy, tasty and fun

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

Depends if they like cheese spread or not. If they like spread, they will probably like these.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Me (cheese and chive) and DS1 (4.5) (original), both enjoyed it.

*Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture*

I enjoyed the texture, it was not too pasty/ cloying
- Taste
not too salty
- Packaging
easy to open. Reasonable amount of packaging, given that it is individual portion sized.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
We've not tried any of the recipes and wouldn't cook with a snack cheese.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
After school snack. One or two will make it to school as a healthy snack.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
I think it would be better if it said how much, e.g. half a glass of milk or something like that.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
small, fun-looking, healthy (not too salty)

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
If it came up I'd mention them favourably.. but we don't spend much time talking about cheese.

*Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
* particularly liked the dinosaurs, but some of the games were too difficult

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)? To be honest, I wouldn't encourage my son to spend time on commercially sponsored websites, and at the moment he can only go on what I allow.

The pods arrived after we'd been out for an unsuccessful dinner date, so the boys (3 and 1.5) tucked in. They can both open the pods (18 mnth with a little help). The plain ones were really likes. The cheese and chive were gagged on and spat out by both of them.
I'm not keen on either, but I don't like that type of texture cheese.

I'd generally use them in DS1's lunch box, or as a occasional snack.

Cheese is made from Milk, I'd take any calcium claims as superficial! Unless they have done something awful to them, I'd just expect calcium to be present in reasonable quantities.

Only looked at the www with the 3 year old. Most games were a little above him, but he enjoyed uncovering the dino. He pointed out which butterflys I might need to catch, and then we had to print off the picture for him to paint in. The river trip seemed to turn into a "mummy, hit the tree, stone etc" Maths is way beyond us!

Would buy the plain ones, rotating with the other individual cheeses available in the supermarket (often depending on price and what we didn't have last)

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

Me (tried both), son (3) tried original and husband (tried both). My son had a bite, and was confused, assume he thought it was another kind of cheese. He licked it and put it back in the fridge. My husband liked it. I was surprised by the taste.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

- Texture

The texture was very different. Between soft cheese, and other standard snacking cheese. Almost like compacted cheese spread?

- Taste

Cheese and Chives had a nice taste, the other was rather bland.

- Packaging

Loved the packaging, was much easier to open than other snacking cheese, especially for little hands.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?

We did the pizza, and it was fantastic. We have also used it in pasta, and it works really well.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc

As a snack, and as part of lunch.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?

Not particularly, as most cheese is a good source of calcium.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?

Healthy, delicious, easy to use (open).

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

I like the idea of them, so have mentioned them to a few friends, when they have asked what they were.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk

Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?

He loved the beginning sequence, although it would be nicer if it was 'spoken' and I didn't have to read it. He loved the dino digging, and the river challenge (but got bored half way through it). And then we clicked on the maths one, and he was too young for it - maybe you need to demarcate the big kids section from the little kids?

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

He was so keen on the idea, loved the look of it... But I had to help him, as everything except the dino digging was too complex for him. Loved the recipe section too. Nice to have everything in one area.

Thank you for the cheese! x

Mine arrived this morning. With a note that says not to eat them if you don't get them until the 14th, which was yesterday. what a faff of a product trial!

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Me, ds1 (6yo) and ds2 (4yo). The 4yo liked the original but not the chive. Me and the 6yo thought both were utterly vile. They look like Babybel but taste wrong - Babybel so much nicer.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?
- Texture Fine, better than the little squishy triangles
Taste Vile - sorry. Really unpleasant. Chive one better than the original, IMHO, because the chive covered up the underlying unpleasantness of the base product. 4 yo preferred the original. 6yo spat out both in disgust.

  • Packaging - looks good and would keep them intact for lunch boxes etc but very wasteful.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
None, didn't feel tempted because the product was so horrible.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc After school snack.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
No. There are plenty of other foodstuffs that are good sources of calcium and taste yummy, like normal/proper cheese.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Good basic ingredients, not too unhealthy, packaging that children can open and is recyclable, tasty.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? NO! Sorry, but they taste horrible. Would much rather have Babybel if I was looking for something like this.

Took ages to load and mine got bored, so didn't really explore it. Their reaction was 'can we play with your iPad instead'.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Me, DH, dd1 (8) dts1 (4)
Me - didn't like them at all!
DH - liked them
DD1 - claims not to like them but I think she was influenced by me
DTS - ditto.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture

Me & kids- slimy
DH - normal as expected
  • Taste

Me - no taste at all. I know I like my cheese strong (but not blue and really smelly) but I ate it and literally couldn't taste anything.
DH - thought they were quite nice.
Kids -only had a few bites. But not to their their taste!

  • Packaging

All - loved it. So easy and simple to open. Definitely the best bit of it!

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
Not yet , but will try to get the kids to eat some more cooked!
Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
As a treat? Though neither me or the kids class cheese as a treat! Very odd way to describe them!
Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Nope - because its not an USP to have cheese full of calcium is it?

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Packed with good stuff, easy to eat, easy to open, easy to carry round.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Nope - because I don't think they taste very nice! DH thinks they are alright. Kids are a bit meh.
