You may have seen that we've been working with Amazon Family recently - they're looking for Mumsnetters to try out this new service and give their feedback on MN. There are several options for getting involved:

  • If you're not currently an Amazon Prime member, and haven't had a trial of Amazon Prime in the past 12 months, you can sign up for a free 3 month trial of Amazon Family
  • If you're already a Prime member, then Amazon Family is free as part of your membership.

You can find all the info about Amazon Family here but the main benefits are:

  • Free one-day delivery on lots of items with Amazon Prime
  • £10 off when you spend £50 in Amazon's Baby Store
  • At least £50 worth of exclusive offers every month
  • 20% off all subscriptions to Huggies nappies until 28th Feb 2013 if you're an Amazon Prime member

See more info on this in Amazon's FAQs on the programme.

Other deals on offer through Amazon Family this month include: 15% off kids bikes, 5% off Gro products, 25% off Organix baby food, a free Tommee Tippee nappy bin and much more.

We're looking for as many UK Mumsnetters as possible to take part in this - it's open to all with at least one child aged 0-3 years, as well as all those who are pregnant.

If you'd like to take part, please click here to sign up.

If you'd like to unsubscribe from Amazon Family at any time, all you need to do is visit 'My Membership' and click on 'Cancel Membership' to opt out. If you'd like to continue with the Amazon Family package after the free trial period, you'll be charged £49 per year via direct debit. For information on the full package offered after the three month free trial please see here.

Once you've had chance to try the package, please come back to this thread and answer the questions below and add other comments you may have. Everyone who answers the 3 questions below on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a bundle of 20 products from the OXO Tot range including a Sprout Chair (see terms and conditions here).

I signed up for this last time it came up 2 months ago, but only recently used them to be able to give feedback.

~ Have you ever shopped on Amazon.co.uk for baby or child-related products before this trial? If so, what items did you tend to buy?

Books (mostly marketplace rather than Amazon itself as it's good for obscure/old books not sold anywhere else) and toys.

~ What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.

Didn't really see the point for us. I mainly use Amazon for the universal wishlist feature and the marketplace feature to buy old books and those books aren't typically eligible for the shipping and none of the things that in the offers section was of use to us. Maybe our kids are too old (8, 5, 3, 1)

~ Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?

No, found nowt useful in the two months I've used it.

I cancelled the membership today.

My problem would be after 3 months I would forget to cancel!! Blush
Wonder how many MNetters would be the same and give more money to this Hmm

~ Have you ever shopped on Amazon.co.uk for baby or child-related products before this trial? If so, what items did you tend to buy?

Yes, I bought books and larger items like baby gyms, bouncer etc

~ What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.

I liked the free next day delivery, it was very useful.

~ Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?

I was impressed with the range of offers, although I didn't use any

I did it and they charged me for amazon prime, which I didn't want.

~ Have you ever shopped on Amazon.co.uk for baby or child-related products before this trial? If so, what items did you tend to buy?

I've shopped for toys and children's books in the main, also party bag fillers.

~ What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.

I've liked the free next day delivery, but don't think it would be worth £49 per year to me as I'm usually fine about waiting for supersaver delivery anyway. I didn't really notice that the products and offers were different to usual. I guess that's the trouble with so much stuff on Amazon being discounted anyway. It's difficult to notice any special discounts.

~ Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?

I'm not convinced that any of the deals on things like nappies or wipes would work out cheaper than supermarket offers. I haven't really been blown away by the exclusive offers and haven't been in a position to use the £10 introductory offer as I've not been buying anything that would cost enough to qualify. Not terribly impressed tbh.

(I joined up the last time you advertised this, so have been using it for a couple of months now).

Have you ever shopped on Amazon.co.uk for baby or child-related products before this trial? If so, what items did you tend to buy?

Yes, I often buy toys, games and children's books for both of my sons.

What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.

I thought it was ok, the next day delivery is obviously useful. The service was good. I felt that there could be a wider range of things on offer.

Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?

I didn't because I didn't feel there was much price difference between the website and supermarkets. Maybe if there was a wider range of products on offer, then I would have used the exclusive offers.
I might have purchased some nappies but I don't really like huggies.

Yes we bought a number of items before and after DD was born including a bouncer chair, jumperoo, toys, books and CD's.

~ What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.
I thought it was really good. The discount codes were useful and I loved getting next day delivery free!

~ Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?
Yes, I used the discount code giving £10 off baby products which we used to buy the next stage carseat for DD. this was already discounted so was a good bargain. I also used the £5 off when you spent £10 on selected children's books. I bought three 'That's Not My...' books which DD loves for around £7 which was an excellent saving.

Have you ever shopped on Amazon.co.uk for baby or child-related products before this trial?
Not really. I've tended to buy more from Ebay than Amazon.

What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family?
I initially thought it was a bit of a gimmick, to be honest. It's not like Amazon was selling anything different, it's been a bit of a rebranding of a section of Amazon. That said, as someone who uses Amazon Prime anyway, it's actually been quite useful for the introductory offers at least (I've got 5 week old twins).

Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it?
Not really noticed much about the service since I use Prime anyway, but the offers have been great.

Did you use any of the exclusive offers?
The money-off vouchers were useful, as much because they were automatically appliedt my account. With my baby brain being as it is, it is quite likely that I 'd have forgotten about them otherwise!

Overall, I think it's been great. With two to buy for, it's been an expensive time, but that has definitely been mitigated by the offers, and I love the convenience of realising that I need something, finding it on Amazon and knowing that it will delivered the next day. I have to say that I'm not sure that I'd have used it if I didn't already use Prime though.

What about the big Amazon boycott? I will return to shopping with them when they pay a proper amount of UK tax.

Are they really struggling to get people to trial this service because this seems to have been about for ages.

Anyway I won't be joining in. Free trials are a massive scam and I've been stung before by forgetting to cancel, money taken early, money taken accidentally, money 'held' for duration of free trial and difficulty canceling.

Amazon don't pay tax so won't be buying anything off them anymore. Shame as Amazon wishlists used to be my families main way of shopping! One of the papers today did an article that showed where you could buy goods up to £20 cheaper from UK shops, who pay tax, and keep the economy going.

We all (I assume!) now shop about for gas, electric and insurance, I'm now doing the same with my gifts.

Also free trials are a scam, anything free does not require card details, which this will do, surely they don't need more money? Imagine how much more your pay slip would show every month without your tax deducted. Now imagine if you earned millions of pounds a year without tax. Do they really need more?

I will fill in more info later but...

I think this is a bit of a waste of time/money and is a bit of a scam. I haven't really seen any deals on it that would be worthwhile using, especially for the price per year.

All of the items you can get the "free" Prime delivery with are actually just as expensive or more than if you just pay for delivery, seems a bit of a scam tbh and the "next day delivery" is always about 2 days ahead. Hmm

Also, did you know that in America, Prime suscribers get free Prime instant video on games consoles, phones and the net? We don't but it's still as expensive!

Tax dodgers or a company utilising a legal loophole that the government really ought to sort out?

Soup - yes the government should sort out tax loopholes. But as they have yet to do so it is up to consumers to send a clear message of discontent to tax avoiding companies.

Yes, I use amazon a lot for toys and I got a lot of pregnancy products from there, like a steriliser, breast pump, safety stuff etc.

~ What was your overall opinion of Amazon Family? Was there anything in particular you liked or disliked about it? This could be about the service itself or the products on offer.
I think its a bit of a waste of money and I certainly wont be paying the full price for it. The offers are good but its not enough to justify it imo. There needs to be more.

~ Did you use any of the exclusive offers? If so, which ones did you find most useful? If you didn't use any of the offers why was this?
The free delivery came in useful and is probably the best thing about it.
