I would just like to thank MN Headquarters and Sky for the year-long free Sky. It was much appreciated in our household.

Awww - is it really going then? I've convinced myself delusional fool that I am it'll just carry on... Sad

I'm surprised I haven't heard anything from Sky to be honest? although if it was going to carry on then I'm very happy not to have heard anything Grin

I've just had a letter from sky, the penny has dropped and I've not given enough notice so will be getting a bill next month (it seems there was a letter a week or so ago but lost in post or something).
As fantastic as it's been to have a million mostly unwatched channels, I'm not impressed that I would have been sent a bill for £66.25 in a few weeks. Fortunately for sky dh will not be letting go of the F1 channel but for £30 a month I'm not impressed.

After several phone calls to Sky I'm a bit miffed now. Is anyone going to continue with their sky package or has everyone given 31days notice to cancel?

I didn't sign up to a bill at the end of the year!

Another thank you here for the Sky test.

We also received a bill for £66.25 and I phoned them to see if it could be reduced as there are many channels that we never watch.

The documentary channels, kids channel and the stop/start record function were great favourites.
We rarely watched movies, never watched sport and I felt that many of the high definition programmes were pretty bad content wise.

The woman that I spoke to at Sky re the bill was lovely, ask me all about her granny, children, hobbies, go on, ask me....at the end of a long conversation, she told me to look at the Sky website for info. Confused

£795 for a year is a lot of money and even the lesser packages are a lot so we will not be subscribing.

naturalbaby - that is a coincidence - we never received the first letter either, just the billing one.

Thanks Ann. I'm surprised there aren't more people complaining about getting a bill for £66.25 for a 'free' year of sky.
The people on the phone were all lovely but basically trying to sell me a package and referring me to the website too - which I found too confusing to use till I figured out Sky Go for a holiday a few weeks ago!

This was really appreciated here too, but like some of the others we didn't really use it enough to warrant continuing the subscription. I will miss the HD.

We also did not receive the first letter although I rang sky to ask when we had to cancel (realised the year was up as I remembered TV shopping last Easter) just days before the deadline and then received a letter following that call which made reference to another earlier one which we had never received. I would suggest that 3 people not receiving it is more than a coincidence and suggests an issue with their automated systems.

We didn't get the letter giving us our months notice either!!

I rang them myself in Feb assuming it was to finish in March and wanting to cancel and was told that the complimentary viewing was being reviewed on April 6th and that we would then be sent a letter giving us plenty of notice to cancel without having to pay for it.

Then on the 17th April, I got a letter saying "further to the letter we sent" and telling me how much I was to pay!! OUrs was £71.something too!Shock

We've loved having Sky and have decided to carry on a reduced subscription but I am very annoyed about the massive bill we didn't expect and DH is ready to tell them to get stuffed completely.

When I called to ask about not having a months notice they said it was all in the contract we signed. Apparently, they have no notice of the notice letter being sent out either but as I should have known when my contract was ending, the onus was on me to call them - but I did and was told to wait for the letter!!

We honestly couldn't have been happier with Sky until this last blip and it's really souring it for us. I can see it going s soon as the F1 is over Sad

What happens if we just don't pay the bill? We had no notice, I didn't sign anything (contract?), they don't have a direct debit set up.... How can sky get away with carrying on a service we didn't agree to and charging us £66 for the privilege?

It smells a bit like dirty marketing tricks to me and even though my bill is only about £18 I'm inclined to refuse to pay it.

You had to sign up some sort of finance thing for just in case you wanted to watch pay-per-view movies. They can take the cash.

Sky have asked me to add the following comment; "Please accept our apologies for those customers who have been troubled by the end of this free viewing period. We appreciate the feedback that you have provided and hope that you have enjoyed having Sky over the past year. We will directly contact the customers above to discuss further"

I never signed up to a finance thing, I'm sure I never gave them any bank details. I asked for a paper invoice rather than set up a direct debit to avoid this happening.

Same here, naturalbaby plus the credit card details on the 'second' yet only letter were from an old credit card which was cancelled due to persons unknown swiping our details

You can get a FreeSat box with record & live pause facilities, like this.

Plugs into your Sky satellite dish, no subscription cost, loads of really good channels.
