He is a great advocate of low carbing - and given how many of us are now signed up to my Bootcamp (around 80 signed up to start with!), he would be fantastic guest.

Did you know that as of Friday, those of us who are Bootcamping lost a total of 341lbs?! That's enough to make almost another three MNetters!

Dr Briffa has written several books, the latest of which Escape the Diet Trap is brilliant in terms of explaining why calorie counting doesn't work and why fat is good for you - completely over-turning the dietary advice the government has been so keen to foist on us over the last 30 years.

Please? <offers wine>

I take it all back, Olivia grin

OliviaLMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 22-May-12 12:45:30

You see.

BIWItheBold Tue 22-May-12 11:48:31

Oooh - fab! Thank you very, very much.

I think he's based not too far away from MNHQ so surely he will be dying to come and talk to us all grin

RachelMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 22-May-12 11:47:32

Great suggestion. We're on the case of tracking down Dr Briffa and will keep you posted on how we get on (though we'll have to hide the biscuit tin if he comes in)

OliviaLMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 19-May-12 16:01:26

It's not me, BIWI, honest. Tis the elusive busy and important powersthatbe.

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 12:54:12

It's hugely counter-intuitive, but it is absolutely true. The very first week I started low carbing (many years ago now) I was amazed and not a little worried about what I was eating. I couldn't believe I would lose weight with the amount of food and the amount of fat I was consuming - it was a real leap of faith! But it works. In fact, if you try and do low carb and low fat, weight loss will slow right down or stop.

Read Dr John Briffa's book Escape the Diet Trap if you can - he explains it brilliantly there.

Which is one reason why I want us to have him here for a web chat, MNHQ

grin

Yup thats the one! grin

Also eating fat with gay abandon?! not that im not partial to fat but it just seems wrong to do it and expect to lose weight?

I will read more of the threads and swot up when I have more time though.

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 12:47:35

I wouldn't worry. No-one seems to take any notice of half of them anyway!

Feckers

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 12:46:54

Hmm. I'm guessing that might be the 'no alcohol' rule? grin

AmberLeaf Sat 19-May-12 12:46:12

Im mulling it over! while struggling with rule No.7

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 12:41:14

My pleasure! Are you going to join us?

AmberLeaf Sat 19-May-12 12:37:06

Thanks smile

Can you link your thread please BIWI?

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 12:27:52

I'm not feeling the love here, Olivia

OliviaLMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 19-May-12 12:10:15

At least bones are low carb.
grin

BIWItheBold Sat 19-May-12 10:28:10

Well [dog with a bone emoticon] it wasn't the weekend on Thursday when I asked, was it?

It's since you've all been down the pub, isn't it? Not interested in us any more. <snivels>

OliviaLMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 18-May-12 22:16:21

<offers a lo carb locket>
grin
Tis the weekend AGAIN. But will nag a bit and see what's occuring.

BIWItheBold Fri 18-May-12 18:04:34

<clears throat in a kind of attention-seeking way>

BIWItheBold Thu 17-May-12 11:34:55

Any news re this? Given today's report about the recommendation that 20 million of us should be being prescribed statins, at an estimated cost to the NHS of £240 million, it would be a very good time to talk to Dr Briffa!

Just adding my voice too. He is so interesting and would give great web chat I'm sure. His book inspired me to try low carbing and I've lost 1 1/2 stone already.

Yes...I always liked the "nothing wrong with chocolate; it should be dark chocolate, though."
