yes i am a saddo who had the temerity to go up to her after her speech at the White Ribbon Alliance Mum's Cafe in H of Commons...
I said that her ferocity was inspiring and she told me that it had been a gift that she'd found something she believed in so very much (her big thing is her charity SING which campaigns for women and children with HIV/AIDS) and that she felt tireless in her activisim. I said how nourishing it must be to be on that kind of journey and she agreed making the v good point that Activism is just such a better feeling than passive impotence.
I am very very inspired by her, and by Carrie's speech...even more so by how moved you were Carrie, that speaks far far more than any words could, that the things you've seen have touched you so much.
So I have decided today to become an Activist, rather than just a gobby gobshite on here.
I think my big thing is linked to this immense cause...I am passionate about sexual education in it's very broadest sense for young women. If young women don't understand their right to keep their bodies safe, have pleasure from sexual contact as well as not to have babies until they want to, there is no hope of anyone including the men they are with respecting those rights.
I'm going to go out there and find out how best to channel the energy that thinking about this subject imbues me with.
Thank you Mumsnet for giving me the opportunity today to crystallise thoughts i've had for years and years...I am VERY proud to be an MNer.
