Apologies if this campaign has been mentioned elsewhere.
There is an Government e-petition : epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/46455
There is a facebook page : the HPI - Holiday Price Increase Group
started by a guy called Paul Cookson, who was originally incensed by CentreParcs pricing.
This campaign is partially just to raise awareness, and so encourage holiday companies to play fair, rather than load prices at school holiday times.
Examples are easily found, where the same holiday may cost £900 the week before half term going up to £3000 in half term.
The holidays may be in UK or abroad, from otherwise cheap holidays, to more expensive options - however the holiday companies are extortionately cashing in on a market that is not free to choose other times to take the holidays.
This campaign is not targeting teachers, who usually have to pay the same inflated prices.
While the holiday companies are private firms, other privatised industries are subject to regulation from government to prevent exploitation, we are asking for the same regard. We obviously do not want the industry to lose jobs, just not hammer parents and those who have fixed holiday times.
Hope this finds some resonance with other MumsNet members.
