Stop Holiday companies charging extra in school holidays

Apologies if this campaign has been mentioned elsewhere.
There is an Government e-petition : epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/46455

There is a facebook page : the HPI - Holiday Price Increase Group
started by a guy called Paul Cookson, who was originally incensed by CentreParcs pricing.

This campaign is partially just to raise awareness, and so encourage holiday companies to play fair, rather than load prices at school holiday times.

Examples are easily found, where the same holiday may cost £900 the week before half term going up to £3000 in half term.

The holidays may be in UK or abroad, from otherwise cheap holidays, to more expensive options - however the holiday companies are extortionately cashing in on a market that is not free to choose other times to take the holidays.

This campaign is not targeting teachers, who usually have to pay the same inflated prices.

While the holiday companies are private firms, other privatised industries are subject to regulation from government to prevent exploitation, we are asking for the same regard. We obviously do not want the industry to lose jobs, just not hammer parents and those who have fixed holiday times.

Hope this finds some resonance with other MumsNet members.

Yes it has - it's been done to death on here, and most people think it's ridiculous.

Have a look at this just above your thread OP ^^

PLEASE NOTE: This topic is for discussions about campaigns Mumsnet is running or may be planning to run. It's not the place for promoting other campaigns or petitions.

Hi Morris

Mumsnet has heard about your campaign and the owners of the site consulted with us, their users, over whether we wanted to formally join the campaign. The answer was a resounding "No". We have had at least one-longing thread on the subject.

This is ridiculous and done to death as others have said.

Seeing as you clearly have too much time on your hands could you please organise for me:
No increase in price of roses on Valentine's Day
No increase in restaurant prices on Xmas Day and New Year's Day
No variable train ticket or bus prices in or out of rush hour
No changes in the prices of fruit and veg when in or out of season

If you run short of things to occupy yourself, do let me know as I'm sure I could think of more for you.

please don't...

Instead, please sign my petition to stop the inflated price of Christmas Cards in December... I saw some in M&S today for the correct price of thrupence.

No need for abuse - I did look, still do not see one, but do see a lot of ignorance here. MPs have called for a debate.
Admin - please delete this whole thread - I do not need "ridicule" here.
Perhaps that is why other threads are not showing up.

The prices go up? Or stat the same and are reduced in term time due to lack of interest?

Holidays are a luxury, supply and demand. Just don't go away.

PMSL @Piscovorus other campaigns. I do find it utterly unfair that I once bought some blueberries reduced to 50 p and now the shop is demanding £2.99 for the same amount!
