I'm organising a peaceful protest against Page 3 outside the News International HQ (3 Thomas More Square, London, E98 1XY) on Saturday 6th July at 2pm... there will be biscuits! If you'd like to contact me you can via email ([email protected]) or leave a comment on my blog (yassayshi.blogspot.co.uk/p/contact) any time. Please visit this link for more information: yassayshi.blogspot.co.uk/p/n.html

Just one reason why this protest is important:

The images displayed of women on Page 3 are sexualised and objectified, and only aim to interest male sexuality. Page 3 is, technically, porn and therefore should not have a place in Britain's biggest-selling "family" newspaper. The paper is seen by thousands of children each day, causing boys to believe that women are, first-and-foremost, sex objects for their gratification. Moreover Page 3 can be detrimental to girls' (and later women's) health by showing them that the only way that they could make it into the papers is by taking their clothes off. This therefore teaches girls that they have no value other than their physical worth, and that sexual desirability to men is the most important thing for them to be successful in all walks of life. They therefore long for transfiguration, and can develop massive insecurities, doubts and self-loathing. Seeing Page 3 at a young age, particularly on a regular basis, is therefore very damaging to children, and should not be accepted in society today.

I definitely was influenced by it from a young age. Dad would leave it open on the kitchen table at page 3 when he went to work where I had to eat my poptarts for breakfast before school. This made me feel very bad about myself.
