Malaria - a thought on how mumsnet can help

I guess a lot of people saw the harrowing films last night on Comic Relief about malaria. Malaria still kills millions of kids but it is compltely preventable. After the last CR I found this online and thought it was a brilliant idea.

There have been a lot of threads on mumsnet on what to do about party bags. Is this the answer? A mumsnet campaign behind this would make a massive difference - between £3-5 buys a mosquito net that could save a life. Also a great way for kids in the UK to get involved in something that can really help children in other parts of the world.

Just a thought...

I saw this post last night and think it's such an brilliant yet simple idea.
I'd love it if Mumsnetters got behind it.
Any chance of a campaign MNHQ?

thanks LadyBeagleEyes. When my kids did this they managed to get their whole primary school involved and the school have so far bought nearly 900 nets instead of party bag stuff.

There's over 21000 primary schools in the UK - just a few would make a massive impact. 200 schools with 500 nets is 100,000 nets. Thats a lot of children safe from malaria!

MNHQ - how about a campaign around this on the back of Comic Relief?

Hello there

Thanks for this suggestion - we'll see if we can contact that organisation to offer them a bit of publicity via our Campaign of the Week slot (which, coincidentally, has been Malaria No More this week).

We've moved this thread to Campaigns as well.

MNHQ - thanks a lot.

The great thing about this site (which partners with Against Malaria Foundation) is that you can actually follow the nets you bought and see photos and videos of your nets being distributed in Africa.

It's amazing - my kids totally loved it when they could really see which villages in Africa their party bags had helped. They couldn't believe that their party had actually saved somebody's life!

A campaign on this could result in huge numbers of nets - just think how many parties there are each week. Really could make a massive difference.

Thanks again.

Hi MNHQ

Wondered if you had any response from Party Bags Save Lives? Would be good to try and get a campaign going while Comic Relief stuff is still in peoples minds.

Thanks for support on this.
