Hello.

Today I launched the initial funding drive for a new community
literacy project based at the Govanhill Baths in Glasgow.

Govanhill Books 4 Kids will be a weekly reading club for children from
disadvantaged, unstable backgrounds, who are struggling with literacy
skills and confidence in school.

Govanhill Books 4 Kids will be providing books that the children will
keep, re-read and share, thus building up mini-libraries of good books
at home where they can retreat when home life gets too stressful.

The club initially plans to meet once a week for 1 hour at a beautiful
Victorian baths in the heart of Govanhill, where children will be given
a new book each week and given a warm, friendly environment in
which to discuss plots and characters, make new friends and build
confidence outside of school and home pressures.

I will also offer informal 1-2-1 reading support if needed. I hold an Enhanced
Disclosure. I'm hoping to launch the club in October, but this
really depends on funding.
