I WOULD LIKE TO START A PETITION PREVENTING THE GOVERNMENT BRINGING NEW RULE PREVENTING FAMILIES TAKING KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL DURING TERM TIME, WHY ARE WE ALL BEING PENALISED FOR THE PARENTS WHO ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TIME OFF WILLY NILLY AND THE PARENTS WHO ALLOW TRUANCY. MY CHILDREN HAVE 100% ATTENDANCE,BUT WE HAVE TO HAVE A TWO WEEK BREAK IN SCHOOL TERM BECAUSE OF COST AND BUSY RESORTS ETC IN SCHOOL HOLLS, MY CHILDREN WONT GET A HOLIDAY IF THIS LAW IS BROUGHT IN, I WOULDNT TAKE THEM IF SATS WERE INVOLVED, WHY CANT THE EDUCATION SECRETARY CONCENTRATE ON THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER LIKE OVER CROWDED SCHOOLS ETC.

What a pointless 'campaign'..

Obviously your kids don't have 100% attendance then, do they? And actually, it does matter - if everyone did it there would be kids missing all over the place, no-one would get access to the full curriculum and teacher's would have no idea who had learnt what. We already get 13 weeks school holidays a year (that's a quarter of the year) - why should you be entitled to a further 2 weeks just because you don't want to pay the price? And to say your kids won't get a holiday is rubbish - they DO get a holiday, they get 13 weeks off school!

The holiday prices during school hold are the right price..... It's during term time ( when bookings drop) the holidays actually get reduced. It's not the other way round!!

You sound very 'entitled'

Why not start a campaign against the travel companies that hike the prices during the holidays? That would get all the teachers on your side too.

Ermmm - what do I do OP, my DH is a teacher so we can't take holiday in term time! Can I start a petition to allow teachers to take extra time off so that we can get a holiday that is cheaper and less crowded?!!

As far as I can see he is trying to make it so that headteachers don't have to decide if the 10 days some people are taking is "authorised" or not. The 10 days was always supposed to be for funerals etc, but as we all know, most people use it for holidays. You'll still be able to take the 10 days but it will go down as unauthorised.

If you're going to try to fight this on the grounds that you want a cheaper holiday, you're going to get nowhere. What a ridiculous attitude.

Having a holiday isn't a human right, you know.

Sirzy · 19/02/2012 14:12

You get a holiday which is within your budget capabilities then.

I think is ks1 then taking them out once is ok if they are settled but beyond that then, especially as a regular thing, It quickly becomes very disruptive.

I DON'T TAKE HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME BECAUSE MY CHILDREN SHOULD BE AT SCHOOL LEARNING.
PERHAPS YOU SHOULD START A PETITION AIMED AT THE HOLIDAY COMPANIES.

WE ARE SKINT BUT CAN AFFORD TO HOLIDAY OUT OF TERM TIME. WE SHOP AROUND FOR GOOD DEALS AND BOOK AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE. WE ARE GOING CAMPING THIS YEAR SO WE CAN AFFORD EGYPT NEXT YEAR. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

We've never been on a foreign holiday together because we can't afford it so we go camping in the uk and have weekends with friends. Since when did an expensive holiday abroad become a necessity?Angry

Yes, you sound very entitled and will get nooooo support this end. (And I'm a teacher but that's got nothing to do with it now as I'm currently a SAHM.)

AND PLEASE DON'T SHOUT!

Report
TheAvocado · 19/02/2012 14:28

I'M GOING TO SHOUT TOO!!!! MY CHILDREN'S EDUCATION IS HUGELY IMPORTANT TO ME AND I KNOW I'M DOING THEM NO FAVOURS AT ALL BY PREVENTING THEM FROM ATTENDING SCHOOL FOR FRIVOLOUS REASONS. SO WE DON'T TAKE THE HOLIDAYS THAT WE WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO AFFORD IN TERMTIME - WE PICK WHAT WE CAN AFFORD WHEN THEY'RE OUT OF SCHOOL. MY CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED TO WRITE IN LOWER CASE LETTERS (PERHAPS YOU MISSED THAT FORTNIGHT OF SCHOOL BECAUSE YOU WERE ON HOLIDAY).

Report
Bunbaker · 19/02/2012 14:33

OP - Please switch your capitals letters off. It is bad netiquette to use upper case as it is construed as SHOUTING.

Children get 3 months per year holiday.
There is no need for them to be off any more than that, unless they are ill.

Holidays are not a right.
