i just know they'll be getting plenty of matching clothes sets, plus the parents aren't shot of a bob or two, so i'd like to get something useful that they might not otherwise know about.

I bought my friend a hand print/foot print kit which she did their foot prints with when a week old. It was some child friendly plaster stuff. Now at 6 her twins can't believe they ever had feet that small.

Personally, when I had my DTs the best gift I was given was a 'meals on wheels' service by my friends. They organised a rota and I had food for months. Wonderful!!!

I agree the meal thing would be a good idea. It hectic with just one new baby so I imagine that you would be loved for ever if you organised something like that.

Like most 'novelty' items the majority of the twin stuff I received was a load of old tat that ended up in the charity bag. We were also given lots of matching clothes but I've never been keen on dressing my twins the same. In the majority of cases I ended up only using one of the sets.

I did receive the SNAP tops as a gift. They were great quality, nice thick cotton but again, they make ID twins look rather samey and no-one can tell them apart.

What a really appreciated was two similar items - the same thing but in different colours or styles. The food idea is also fab. I had one friend who used to come over with lunch then make me have a sleep while she did the washing up. Sleep and food are rather scarce in the first few months of twins so this was a godsend!

I'd agree with the food idea. It was something I appreciated far more than anything else I was given, because newborn twins are sooo time consuming. And maybe some nice bath type things for mum to use when she gets 5 mins to relax.

My friend had twin boys on Saturday. I am going to give them basket/box goodies for the cupboard for the visitors arrive & wee gifts for mum & dad.(also I will be including several little cards for mum, so she can redeem them when she wants to offering an hour of my time when every she needs it) She's more likely to reedem a card/voucher than just call me & ask for help. We will also give the boys a wee gift bag each from my dd.

tbh they are zillionaires and have a nanny and such so while i would tend to agree about the food (a friend did that for me... bliss) i don't think it's such a good idea. plus the hub and i don't get on too brilliantly (not badly, but there's no click) so i don't think he would appreciate being inundated with offers of me being in their house.

ooooh, all good ideas, esp the gap socks one. am going to go with the light as they sell them in the ponce shop round the corner and i wanted one for dd but couldn't justify the expense in the end. for two, however, it's do-able. i have seen the bedroom and i know they don't have one, but if they get one as a pressie they can take mine back to the shop. excellent. job's a good 'un.
