Twin pregnancy after previous caesareans

zephyrcat · 16/02/2007 20:04

You may have seen that I recently discovered I am pregnant and had been seriously considering a termination. When I went for a dating scan this morning they told me it was a twin pregnancy!

I'm a mess of emotions and not sure what to do.

I have 3 children already, the youngest is 20 months and I had them all by caesarean.

Is there anyone who has had a twin pregnancy after previous caesareans? I need to see a doctor/consuktant on Monday to find out all the implications but woud also love to hear from anyone who has had experience of this.

Scary eh?! Was it you who was pg after the morning after pill failed? The whole time I've been agonising over what to do I kept remembering one of your threads where someone said 'if you are still pg after the MAP then it's meant to be' (mine failed too!)

yes, I did fall after taking the MAP, but I lost the baby at the begining of January. I have to go out now, but I'll be back later.

I had dd1 by c section becase of placenta praevia and then had twins (also by c section) - nithing was ever mentioned about my first section being a problem.

SparklyGothKat · 17/02/2007 08:08

The first section isn't a problem, but ZC has had 3 previous C/Sections, which is what she is worrried about.

WOW Zephyrcat Twins, i read your thread the other day about finding out you were pregnant & what not, i can only imagine that your emotions are all over the place what a shock to find out it is actually 2.

All i can say is go with what you feel, get as much advice/support as possible & do what is best for you & your family, times will be hard but would you have any support close by?

How far along are you?

If you need to chat i have msn & am more than happy to be there for you

Hi Zephyr. Post on the multiples thread babe. The D' ya ever wonder (Paolo in my shower) thread. You'll probably get more response there.

Btw... congrats on the twin pregnancy. I had my DTs by caesarean but only because of the way that they were lying (sideways with a presenting cord) otherwise it would have been a vaginal. Had a previous caesarean birth. However, I may not be around today but post on the multiples and I think some of the girls will be around.

Marsy btw!

Oh also.... I'll have a wee chat with some fellow doulas and see what we can find out for you.

Thanks guys

I was going to come and find you eventually Mars - I know this is the same thing that happened to you so was going to ask you how hard it really is!! Although your older ones were a fair bit older than mine I think?

Paolo in the shower is a multiples thread?! For all the times I've seen it on active conos that's the furthest from what I thought it'd be about!

Scooby I'm only 5 weeks (well, 7 if you do it the stupid way, from lmp date) so very early days yet. If we go for it I'm going to be pretty much stuck on my own as all family are miles away and we only really know a couple of people where we live.

So scary!

my friend had 2 children both by caesarian, then fell pregnant with twins, And had a natural birth, even tho she had another caesarian book (she was gonna be sterilised at the same time), dont quite know how she managed a natural birth, havent had a chnce to sit and have a chat with her yet.

iirc Janh has had four sections, zephyrcat - I'm sure she would be able to give you some advice on that (although hers were quite a while ago ). I'll give her a shout if I see her.

Thanks all I didn't realise you had twins Custy?!

Any advice will be more than welcomed. I am v worried about coping with the age gaps - or lack of. DD1 is 5.2, DS is 2.8 and DD2 is 10months. So ultimately I'm looking at 5 under 6

Zephyrcat, what a rollercoaster you are on atm.
Firstly, I do have experience of having a c section with ds1 and again with dts. They were only 20 months apart, so similar to the kind of gap you might end up with (I know that is a bit up in the air).
They didn't really think that I was at any more risk after previously having a c section. I did have a pph, which is probably not what you want to hear, but that wasn't linked to previous section. When I asked if I could have other children in the future because I had already had 3 (they opened me up again to stop the bleeding) I was told that it wouldn't be a problem. .
Five children thats a big leap. Being honest with you thats one of the reasons I haven't tried for a fourth, because five seems so many. However if we had been in a better financial situtation, and also if I had been better at pregnancy in general, we might have gone ahead with it. And never say never
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just to add in all honesty - I find five easier than 3 - you just give in to more!

Have no experience of twins after a c-section, but I do know that my friend is one of nine, and all nine of them were delivered by c-section. She is (I think) the youngest, and she is 40, so it was some considerable time ago. I imagine that the "three c-sections only" thing is a guideline - after all, no one can actually prevent someone from choosing to have another child after they already have three, or nature from taking its course. So, you are advised to have no more than three, but you can't actually be prevented from having another section.

Hi

Otter going by your name congratulations are in order!!

It certainly is a rollercoaster just now! I've gone from being 99.9% certain of the termination to less than 40%. DP wants these, deep down I want them and so far not a single person has said it would be a bad idea. I really don't want to be pregnant again and I really don't want another CS but I keep thinking about gorgeous little twins and it kind of fades into insignificance!

There is so much I need to learn - I think dp is going to have to be home with me for a good while to help out.

Is there such a thing as a triple buggy that will fit on a bus or through a shop door??
