Multiples will be 14 months apart - help!!!!

Hiya
Like mumoftwinsX2 I have twins and have just found out that i am pregnant with twins . My second set are due in June and there will only be a 14 month gap between the two sets.
I'm excited/scared about the new arriavals - if they're half as well behaved as our exisiting two we should be fine! But I do have some serious questions that I hope someone out there will be able to help me with!
The main thing on my mind is how do you get about with four kids who I assume won't be walking properly (I mean, can 14 month old kids ride a buggy board??). What age do kids really start walking properly? I'm thinking I need a tripple buggy and a baby bjorn?
I guess we'll be getting an MPV - does anyone know if its safe to attach baby seats to all the seats?
I'm sure plenty of people have been here before me. Does anyone have any other practical tips on how to manage?

oh wow ~ congratulations! I don't have much advice, but, with 4 car seats make sure the airbags are turned off if one is in the front... unless you get an MPV with 5 back seats. Not sure about side airbags...

Ooo, congrats. Very exciting.

No experience of twins but I can tell you that my 15 month old could definitely not ride on a buggy board for any length of time (eg more than a minute or two). He is a really good walker (started at about 10.5 months). Some children don't walk until they're 18 months or older, so I wouldn't count on buggy boards if I were you. My ds also needs to be strapped in. He is, er, very 'independent', & I couldn't trust him to stay on the buggy board and not dash out into the road.

How wonderful! I think you're right about getting a triple buggy & and a sling - I carried my DCs in slings until they were around 9mths so your older twins should be properly mobile by then. And consider getting reins - even the best behaved DCs can have their bad days and keeping track of 2 or 4 when you're out will be 'challenging'!

You'll also need to work out a drill for getting them in and out of cars safely - my worst behaved toddler was always 1st into the car and last out - that way, the other 2 would be strapped into buggies/slings etc so he could have my undivided attention once he was free!

MPVs ought to be designed to take that many baby seats. All you need are 3-point harnesses and airbags switched off. I'm having a 3-pt harness fitted in the middle seat of my current car next month in order to accommodate another booster seat (my DCs are growing up!) so it's not difficult to customise a car, if needs be

I had 3 DCs under 3 btw (not quite as shocking as 2 sets of 2!) and it was, and remains, hard work but the rewards for having such close siblings is immense.

Now... you can get a quad buggy. Yes they do exist. TAMBA will have sale boards so that you can pick one up reasonably cheaply. I think that 2become4 has some as well.

I'll see if I can find a link to quad buggies. You'll not want to carry a sling for too long, esp if pushing a triple. And if you're going to push a triple you may as well push a quad.

I have 5 with only one set of twins, so maybe after these you could have another set and extend my lead lol!

Thank you all so much for your help. I had absolutely no idea that quad buggies existed (I guess I'd never really thought about it) and I had no idea that double slings existed either - a whole new world has suddenly opened up to me!!
Thanks for all the advice on walking and cars and controlling kids. You've made me feel soooo much better!

I have to say it was her experience that has put me off having anymore, the chances of having another set of twins having had one set do increase...no more for me!

I think pushing a triple buggy with a baby carried on your front will be extremely hard work! I suggest you buy a baby carrier for your back, such as the 'ergo' which is a carrier that can be used front or back and can be used to carry a toddler or a baby.here

I've got one set of twins (girls aged 5) and I really cannot imagine what it would have been like to have had another set when they were 14 months!! You'll cope though and it will be lots of fun as well as hard work.

Out of interest, are your first set non-identical? At my six week check my doctor told me to be very careful with contraception because after having non-identical twins the chances of it happening again are 1 in 16!! Put us off having a third child to be honest!

I don't have twins, but did have just 11 months between my dd2 and ds1, with their older sister being just 3. My life saver was getting an au pair. We couldn't really afford it, but figured it was worth going into debt for and it really was. We only had her for a year and then I carried on by myself. Au Pairs only do a few hours per day, but it really was a godsend for me as dd2 was still crawling when ds was born, so breastfeeding him was nervewracking as she'd inevitably start sticking her fingers in doorways or similar. It was the little things that made life better, like coming downstairs after putting them all to be to find the toys tidied and the kitchen floor mopped so all I needed to do was open the wine.
