Gender at 17 week NHS scan?

I'm pregnant with MCDA twins, and dying to know the gender. Tomorrow is my first scan since 12 weeks, and I'm really hoping to find out the gender as I know you could often find out at this point if you paid for a private gender scan. Was anyone told the gender this early by the NHS?

I had a private gender scan at 16+6 with Babybond, they do them from 16+0 weeks. At my NHS scan they would only tell me the sex of the babies at the 20 week scan.

That's what I'm afraid of! Did you ask and they actually refused to tell you? I am going to be watching the screen very closely, as with my DS I could tell he was a boy before they told me!

Why don't you ask them to 'guess' - perhaps they'd feel more comfortable if you put it that way?

My nhs refuses to tell you sex at any scan, we've got to pay to go private now

I have MCMZ twins. I found out the gender at 16 weeks. I had yo have scans every fortnight and they always breathed a sigh of relief when I told them I already knew the gender - I guess it meant they didn't have to worry about accidentally referring to "her"

Thanks Evil - that's what I wanted to hear Wink I will be scanned every two weeks from now on, so if not tomorrow, maybe in two weeks.

Good suggestion Kippy, will try that if they act funny about it!

My hospital have said they can tell mr at the 12 week scan. Apparently they are one of the only 3 hospitals in the country who have the equipment to be able to.

I found out the gender at 17wks with an nhs scan. The sonographer did say she wasn't 100% though but did point out the penis. She was right Grin

I had a scan at 16w with DCDA twins. I asked, but they said they hadn't looked as it was a growth scan so they were looking for the things they were supposed to be looking for and not anything else. We found out they were both girls at the 20w scan.

I think I found out at 20 weeks it was probably girls but at later scans, they offered to tell me, one consultant who scanned me said she was 99% sure. Being scanned every 2 weeks means there's plenty of opportunities to find out!

Thanks everyone. I am so excited today, it is going to be a big disappointment if I don't find out! My scan is not until this afternoon, so still have a while to wait.

I asked at my 17wk scan and consultant was happy to tell us, she was sure they were boys. 2wks later the same consultant was sure they were girls o_O after a few more scans I'm happy to believe they are girls.

So the sonographer was happy to tell me, and it was pretty clear. I'm going to be a mum to three boys (including DS, there wasn't a surprise triplet)!
