Bleeding when carrying twins in 1st trimester

Hello

I posted a thread in the wrong place and was advised to look at discussions here in relation to carrying twins and bleeding but I couldn't find any threads.

I am 6w6d and know that it's twins because I had an early scan. I have had two bouts of bleeding over two days and wondered if anybody else has/had experienced the same thing?

Go to the GP or A&E immediately.

Bluepen, I went to the EPU today and all is fine. Was advised if bleeding got really heavy with clots and/or abdominal pain then I should return.

I have read on other sites that bleeding during twin pregnancies is common. Just wanted to know if others have experienced this?

Hi I had bleeding when pregnant with my twins that's how I found out it was twins as I had an early scan. Everything was fine they said it was just implantation ( I was six weeks pregnant) . Congrats on your twin pregnancy , try not to worry.

I had a bit of bleeding, once just after my first internal scan, which they did because I was having some cramping (6w1d), and once or twice after some... er... romantic time with DH. According to the doctor it's very common as the cervix is quite sensitive at that point, apparently. As long as it's not bright red fresh blood coming out en masse (filling up one pad/hour) I'd try not to worry too much!

Congratulations, by the way. :)

Thanks for the reassurance soontobesix. I think I need to stop trawling the net for info as it doesn't help matters sometimes!

My first bleed was after my ultrasound on Wednesday and the second one this morning omw to work. Kinda wish it was linked to being amorous with my OH but no such luck. Don't think he'll touch me for the remainder of this pregnancy due to fear of anything terrible happening.

I had quite a bit of spotting with my twins (and with my subsequent singleton 10 years later as it happens) very early on. Like Soontobesix it was how we found out we had twins on the way from about week 5 or 6. No pain and not bright red is quite often nothing to worry about, I think. Though not worrying is easier said than done, of course. Masses of luck and good wishes to you, Chanty.

Yep. I was scanned at the EPU for bleeding at 7w (started at 6w) and found out I was having twins. I bled on and off until about 24w. I was diagnosed with a cervical ectropian (?sp) and that calmed me down a bit because I knew there was a reason (after a fairly big bleed at 23w sent me running to mat triage).

No sex for us either. I was told sex could irritate it further and the bleeding stressed me out massively so if I could avoid making it worse I would. Embarrassingly, having a big poo seemed to make it worse too, but again once I realised this it helped a lot.

I found that cervical ectropians are more common in multiple pregnancies. They're completely benign and not associated with anything 'bad'. Can't remember why they're more common with multiples though.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

I bled around 6 1/2 weeks and got checked out, which is how I found out it was twins. Anecdotally, it does seem that a lot of expectant mums of multiples experience bleeding early on. I went to a TAMBA class and most people in the room had found out early when they went in for bleeding. But always best to get checked out. Glad everything is fine.

Glad to know it isn't just me. The human body, particularly, a woman's body is amazing!

Another here, bled at 5 + 4 for a couple of days. I think any time between 5-7 weeks bleeding is quite common. Good luck x

This has helped me. I found out yesterday that I'm having twins. Had brown blood for couple of days and went for scan. Measurements put them at 5+6. Have to go back for another scan on Thursday due to slow heart rates. Anyone else had experience of this from early scan?

I'm currently in the same boat. I started bleeding all of a sudden. I'm still bleeding fresh blood but no clots and no pain. Its been nearly 3 days now. Still bleeding but it's not heavy. Found out I'm having twins too. Measurements put them at 5 weeks and there's no heartbeat. But the doctors are saying may be they're still too small to have a heartbeat. I'm waiting for a scan next week to see if there is a heartbeat.

Hope everything went well for you. I see this message was from 2014.
