At how may weeks were your twins born?

I am 30 weeks with DCDA Tgirls. I have in the past week been suddenly growing alot, feeling quite sick, having more braxton hicks, hemmies, out of breath, unable to force myself to do housework or much else some days, need to sit down a lot, feeling far more intolerant of my 3 yo son when he misbehaves.
I just feel as though I could have these babies quite soon. I think they are close to 2kgs each now. My old stretch marks are running upward towards my navel as i grow. Please tell me how many weeks you were and and any birth stories welcome - I probably need a bit of companionship! Confused

Mine were born two weeks ago at 38+2 by ELCS as Twin 1 was breech and Twin 2 oblique. I can absolutely sympathise with your discomfort. Mine were 5lb5oz and 7lb13oz so really good weights, especially Twin 2.

My post-twin stomach is ridiculous - wobbly like jelly and covered in stretch marks. I was never a bikini girl before but can't imagine ever being now!!

The birth itself was okay. Both babies went to NICU for 'mild respiratory distress' and I didn't have them with me for 48 hours. At that gestation and knowing their estimated weights I wasn't prepared for that. Worth noting I was only given the steroid injections to help their lungs 12 hours before the ELCS though.

I was in hospital for 6 days post birth because of my blood pressure; that was the worst part. Ended up threatening to self discharge and was magically discharged quite quickly in the end.

Blood loss has been okay - after two weeks it's at light period level. My wound has healed well, although I've had awful shoulder pain

Try to enjoy the last few weeks. Make time for yourself and stock pile dry shampoo Wink

Oh Congratulations andadietcoke!!

How wonderful to hear from you after reading lots of your posts during pregnancy!
Do you feel that they missed something giving you steroids too late? (I know nothing about steroids and twins re breathing).
How are the babies now?

My sister saw me at 28 weeks and said I looked wonderful/glowing etc. She saw me again at 32 weeks and was stunned how much bigger I had got. I found weeks 30-34 very painful and couldn't wait to get them out. I had big babies, my water went at 34+5 and they weighed 5lb8 & 6lb1. They would have both been 8lb or near had I got to my c section date of 38+0.

Oh and both were transverse so my bump was gargantuan!

I don't know. I only know that the consultant who eventually prescribed them the day of my pre-op was very surprised I'd previously been told I didn't need them. I'll never know whether things would have been different if I'd had the steroids earlier.

Both babies are fine now. They were in NICU for 48 hours - Twin 1 had problems maintaining her temperature and they both struggled with oxygen saturation. They also ended up being tube fed because they weren't feeding from the sippy cup - they tube fed them my expressed colostrum and formula. I tried to bf but they wouldn't latch on, even though I'd fed Twin 1 in recovery before she was taken away.

They're both fine now and above their birth weights. I'm mixed feeding - half expressed milk and half formula.

Induced at 37+6. They were 7lb and 6lb 5. I worked until 35 weeks!

Neversleepagain, how quickly we're you allowed home if you don't mind me asking?

Andadietcoke - it sounds as if you've had quite a tough time - I think I'd have really struggled with that experience and probably would be feeling traumatised - you must be exhausted! Perhaps you're coping fine.
I remember just feeling terrible after my first birth - my milk hadn't come in and the baby was really hungry and hardly slept at night for quite a while.
I really wish you all the best and hope that you are being looked after a bit! X

36 weeks bang on, normal delivery

Report
neversleepagain · 13/09/2013 20:12

The babies spent 3 days in NICU, 5 days in SCBU and 5 days in Transitional Care. I had the steroids before the c section, both could breath unaided, however T1 was grunting and they thought she was going to need CPAP - she didn't in the end.

Born one day short of 38 weeks, identical twins, induced but ended up in a C Section. We stayed in hospital for 5 days, the twins were in SCBU but fairly minor reasons e.g. Some jaundice, low blood sugar, a bit small (4lb 10 & 5lb 2) etc - the staff were great and it meant I got a bit more sleep at night before coming home too! Try and rest as much as you can, although it might not be so easy with a 3 year old. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

I had non identical twins at 36 wks 6 days, natural delivery - they were 5 lbs 9 and 4 lbs 5 and we came home after 2 days...I think I was quite lucky as it was all fairly straightforward.

Lots of luck OP and well done to you all.

36+5, ELCS as twin 1 breech and twin 2 oblique. Date was brought forward as twin 2 hadn't grown between 32 week scan and 36 week scan - twin 1 was 6lb5 and twin 2 was 3 lb13 - she spent 6 days in SCBU, never had trouble breathing, just very tiny and skinny so needed feeding and raising temperature. She's still tiny now at nearly 2 yo, 0.4th centile, but a bundle of fun and very feisty. I was never offered steroids - is this normal now?

We stayed in with her as twin 1 also had weight (lost too much) and temperature issues so they wouldn't discharge him and tbh I was glad as would have hated going home with just one baby. However I felt there was a total lack of bf support in hospital, was offered formula from day 1 and had pressure to use top ups (one even said "you'll never be able to feed two"). Managed to mix feed them until 11 months old in the end.

36 weeks, I was induced as twin 1 had stopped growing. Ended up with him being born with forceps and his identical brother by EMCS - not ideal but after 1 day in special care and 8 days in transitional care we were all home!

I was 39 and 6 days, they weighed 14lb and 3 oz between them.
T1 was head down and T2 was breech.

37w6 here, elective section due to their size - 9 lb 2 and 5 lb 10. Poor DD had gotten a bit squashed by her brother.

Ok-wince inducing post alert. I had mine at 37-elc. I was fucking mahoosive. Seriously, i used to lurk in MandS as i heard if you popped there they sent you loads of swag until a man just stood and gawped at the bump. Was going to be induced, didn't work. My obs was away, so a replacement came in, took one look at me and said "Oh you poor woman, would you like to have your babies now?" I dont care how patronising he was being, i could have kissed him. Ladies, those bad boys were 7.11 and 8 lb and when she got back that bitch my obs went mental as she thought i should have gone to term.

duckyfuzz · 15/09/2013 09:51

Mine (dcda) were exactly 35 weeks, arrived the day before I was due to see consultant about induction, due to sudden change in growth rates. They were 4.6 and 4.2 lb, just over 2kg, no nicu but jaundice kept us in for a week. They are 9 now, fit and healthy girls!

The week before they were born we moved house, I will feel forever guilty that this hastened their arrival, but forever grateful that they didn't come any sooner!

40 weeks, very rare, born on the day. Amazing. 6 pounds 8 and 7 pounds 8. They were not the first children so that might be why. I was very lucky.
Normal births, no C sections.
