Quick straw poll if you don't mind...

Were you bf-ing when you conceived your multiples? Entirely unscientific straw poll but read somewhere that this increases your chances.

TTC at the moment and love to daydream about twins even though I guess I'd never sleep again

Any other old wives tales factors in conceiving twins?

No. Have 2 older dcs, nothing done any different this time that with conceiving first two (though older and already have kids which apparently ups the chances)

Nope, BF DD to 1 year, started trying soon after she turned 2, now 28 weeks nearly with identical girls. Am over 35, age is a factor for identical twins, I believe.
And whilst its very exciting to be having twins, I have found twin pregnancy pretty challenging, and that's without any significant complications so far ? just something to bear in mind and be glad to have avoided if you end up pregnant with just the one!!

Very wise words cheerymum. I guess daydreams only ever contain the positive bits...

No.
Age and number of previous pregnancies do increase the chances though.

I think the older you are the more likely you are to conceive non-identical twins, as your body can start releasing more than one egg per cycle as you approach the end of your reproductive life, in an attempt to maximise your chances of becoming pregnant! Then you just need a partner who is some sort of super sperm and can fertilise both, and Bob's your uncle!!

And some communities that eat lots of yams have more twins I believe - not sure if it is proven that the yams are what do it though!

Just to add in case it changes anything. My 1st set are Identical MoMo boys, and I think I'm PG with fraternal. Find out next week if I'm correct. I'm 23.

No, first babies. I have a higher BMI though, and apparently that 'helps' too.

Nope, first babies, bit of a surprise pregnancy as we were on the 'not too bothered' end of seeing what would happen if we pulled the goalie. Bingo on the first month with DCDA girls, no family history. They say height and milk consumption might have something to do with it, though--something to do with a specific growth hormone, apparently. I'm 28 and had a borderline underweight bmi, so age and weight weren't factors for me.

I really wanted twins until I actually got pregnant with them! The discomfort of pregnancy (21 weeks of ms, severe back pain, and now one has actually fractured my rib!) mixed with the logistics of prepping/caring for two has all been a bit daunting.

No first babies.

I love mine to death but I wouldn't recommend two at a time, btw. It's hard work.
