Twin pregnancy - just exhausted!

Hi there,
I'm 18weeks preg with DCDA twins am am just exhausted! Before I found out that I was having twins, I had high hopes of finishing lots of work (self employed). I just cannot seem to get motivated. My 3yr old son goes to nursery in the mornings which is supposed to be my work time and at the moment I feel tired by the time I get home from dropping him off! I have had to nap from 11-12 some days and have had migraines. Though all my tests have been normal I have been put on a diabetic diet 'just in case' which may be a good thing as I'm a sucker for carbs. I take pregnacare max and eat healthily. I often go to bed by 9.30 blah blah blah. Perhaps I just need a moan. I cannot nest as I need to move but dont have anywhere yet (currently in studio flat with DH, Ds1 and expecting twins with step children visiting at weekends. I seem to have little adult company or conversation as all my friends work or don't have kids and my partner is at university... Oh well, at least..... loads to be greatful for sob sob! Any comments/ conversation welcome right now!

Hi,

I wish I had some good advice about easing the tiredness, it really is hard. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions apart from eating and sleeping as much as you possibly can.

My twins are 6 months old now. Although I am still very tired from looking after the twins and my other DC (I go to bed at 8pm if I get the chance!) it is still nothing like the extreme tiredness of my pregnancy. Just take it one day at a time and remember it is worth it in the end. My twins are at a lovely stage now. Watching them shouting and smiling to each other is gorgeous. You'll get there! I hope you feel a bit better soon.

My advice would be to listen to your body as it's telling you what it needs. Multiple pregnancies are bloody knackering. My triplets are 14 now and I can still remember how tired I was.

So lovely to hear from you both. I went to a pregnancy yoga class today and could only manage half of what the others were doing which was pretty gentle! It seems i get a bit out of breath with any exercise.. i am usually quite fit. I did listen to my body and didn't do anything which made me feel uncomfortable. It's reassuring to know that you felt very tired too - indefinitely feel completely different with this twin pregnancy!

Being pregnant with twins us bloody exhausting! At least I found it to be so anyway.

I remember the gut wrenching tiredness. There is nothing quite like it. Have you had you iron checked recently? I was breathless too (sitting down!) and needed iron tablets.

I do remember the tiredness and sickness easing around 20 weeks.

I'm 28 weeks now and found my tiredness improved after starting on ferrous sulphate tablets from 20w. You should have bloods at 20w so they can check your iron levels anyway.

I had a two-and-a-half year old when I was pregnant with twins and I was exhausted too. I could not stop myself falling asleep on the sofa in the evenings - it was like being dragged under water. Naps, when work and childcare allowed, were a feature of my pregnancy too. Do get your iron levels checked. I had never been anemic before but I was during the twin pregnancy and the pills made a big difference in no time. Also eat healthily by all means, but eat plenty. One midwife told me to go away and have a bacon sandwich - I took her advice!

PS: We also moved house twice during my twin pregnancy. It's a lot to handle huh? If you weren't knackered it would be strange.

Hi I am 17+3 with twins and also bloody knackered!!!!!! DP had two boys from his previous relationship that we have week on week off, I just can't get anything done it feels. Constantly running round trying to keep the house clean and tidy and it just always seems a mess Sad

My consultant put me on ferrous sulphate tablets at my 15 week app 'just in case' and to stop me getting anaemic which is meant to be very common in multiple pregnancies.

Hope you (we all) feel more energetic soon Flowers

hi can I join in the 'I'm so tired'! I'm only 9 weeks (found out at 6 weeks it's possibly twins then at 8 weeks it's definitely twins....eeek) and the tiredness has just floored me today. Could barely keep my eyes open on the school run today!
Please tell me the tiredness is going to ease up (or if it's not just lie and tell me it will anyway!)

Congrats to everyone :)

I had bone crushing tiredness from about week 6-16 then not too bad from weeks 16-28. After that I got so big that everything was so difficult and the tiredness kicked in again.

Then when the twins are born the tiredness comes back permanently Grin

neversleepagain. I know you are joking, but don't you think it is different that twin pregnancy exhaustion from the sleep deficit/ crazy days tired of being a twin mum?

Rest rest rest! I really sympathise. I used to squeeze naps in all over the place when I was pregnant. Do what your body tells you :)

I am under no illusions about the fact that the tiredness will be worse still once babies arrive. I remember thinking with DS1 'now tonight, I am getting a good nights sleep' as I kept forgetting that is need to feed every 2 or three hours through the night.
So I am almost surrendered to the twin preg situation. I still feel frustrated at not doing any work but I'm making small goals for myself and not looking at 'the whole mountain' before me. Smile 20week scan next week -hooray!!

Growing more than one baby is knackering (and growing one is bad enough !). Sleep when you need to, and get some fresh air every day if you can. And get work done when you feel up to it.
