Section booked at 39&2?!

Hi everybody, I'm new here, this is my first post!

I'm 35&6 with b/g twins. I'm booked in for 39&2, and I just feel it's a bit late. I've done a lot of reading and most seem to be either booked at 37-38 or have had a spontaneous labour by this point.

My consultant has said to ring if I go into labour and they'll get ready for me, but I'm a bit worried, the hospital is 25 mins away, what if they come really quick?!

I have a scan on Friday, should I ask them to change the date to 38 weeks?
Also, another reason I'm scared of spontaneous labour is if it happens, they'll probably want to do a cervical check which will terrify me. I've got real issues since my previous forceps delivery. Has anybody got any advice?
Thanks x

I would say If you are unhappy with it, ask them to change it, otherwise you'll just fret about it and the last stages of a twin pregnancy is stressful enough! I actually had the opposite with my bg twins, I was booked in for an induction at 37, but felt I wanted to go longer so asked them to change it to 38.

You are totally justified in asking them to change it as I think (check) the nice guidelines say between 37 and 38 but not totally sure. That said some morioka choose to go longer.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Bg twins are great!!

The NICE guidelines for twins say that women should be offered delivery at 36 wks for ID twins & 37 wks for non ID and that if the mother refuses this date then she should have the risks of waiting longer explained to her. I haven't looked at this for a few months but I will have a look later & see if I can get a link for you.

(Sorry Nancy, I've just seen that you already mentioned this!)

Thanks ladies! I've read the latest nice guidelines and would def feel more comfortable with a booking in the 38th week, especially as they're measuring ahead! Will speak to my doc after my scan in friday x

My ID boys were born at 37 weeks vag birth. I was supposed to be booked in for a c-section at 39+1, I was told the longer the twins I carried the better for development and was encouraged to wait, but told 40 weeks was the max limit to carry them for space issues etc.

But if some have been told different, I don't know.

My b/g twins were born by elcs at 37w exactly. Was originally scheduled for 38w but brought forward as I was in pain and struggling to walk etc. Consultant said it couldn't be brought any further forward as NICE guidelines say from 37w.
