Twins???

I am coming up to 12 weeks pregnant, I have been showing since I was less than 6 weeks, I have been really realy tired, more tired than I was even in the first three months with DS as a newborn, I have been feeling really sick, which I didn't suffer with first time at all, although I haven't actually been sick, and I am feeling movements, have been since week 9 and whereas they used to be down on one side, the last few days I have felt it up in the other corner as well, have now got to the point where I have given up on the idea of just being maybe a month ahead of my dates, and am starting to wonder if there is more than one in there. I am now getting comments from complete strangers like "Cor, when are you due to drop" "Can't be much longer can it?" "Aww, lovely, a summer baby..." "You look so uncomfortable" these sort of comments are bad enough at 9 months, let alone less than 3, and it is very embarressing when I have to turn around and say well I'm not due till November...

What I guess I am asking is, when you do get big early on everyone always jokes about it being twins, but and I know this sounds silly but, did those of you who have twins get big quickly/quicker than a singleton pregnancy would do?

My scan isn't for another 3 weeks, I think I will be going out of my mind by then!!

TIA

what you are describing sounds exactly liek my twin pg, except that I didn't show particulary early, just got big quickly once I did start showing. I was sicker, more tired and felt early movement tho. Good luck!

Thanks :)

I don't know what to think anymore, someone just pointed out that all of the twin pregnancies she has known about have been really bad for MS, bad enough to be in hospital with dehydration etc. (Thanks BTW wannaBe!!) I am no where near that bad...

You have MS? My mil has that too. My twin pg was horrendous, but I know plenty of people who sailed through it with no probs. How was ur first pg?

Hi NJ - I am also on the Due Nov 06 thread but saw your post here. I have twins aged 18 months - as they were my first I did not start to show with them until about 14 weeks but then I am very tall so maybe my long body made a difference! So cant help you on that front but on the sickness front - I was very very ill - throwing up all day every day, couldnt stomach anything and lost half a stone in the first three months. The smell of food made me feel queasy and I could rarely keep anything down. This lasted until about 17 weeks so well into the second trimester!

This time around I feel sick but am rarely actually physically sick as there is only one on board so less hormone floating around!

Could you ask for a blood test at your docs to measure the level of HCG in your blood? I had mine measured early on in my first pg and they expect it to be around 50 in the very early days and mine was 192 so they expected a multiple pregnancy very early on - you must be on tenterhooks waiting for your scan!!!

Sorry didn't mean MS like that - too much time on the ante-natel board I think Blush MS = morning sickness!!

First pregnancy was great sailed through it, no sickness, not even feeling sick, none of this absolute exhaustion(sp?) I went off food for a bit but other than that I don't think I had ever felt better in my whole life!!

Hi Harrogatemum :)

See that is probably one thing that wouldn't add up to twins, I didn't get a positive test till I was 9 days late, but it was only my second month off the pill, I hadn't really got into a routine, so I don't really know when AF would have been due.

It looks like I am going to have to be brave and somehow manage to contact my midwife, for whom I have no name or number for!! LOL

Having said that, if it is twins, is there any reason why I would need a scan before 14 weeks (which is what I will be at the scan that I have booked?)

no, not at all, afaik, I didn't have a scan until 20 weeks, so I knew it was twins by then, then wasscanned every 4 weeks until nearer the end. I had sickness a lot worse with the twins, lots of food and drink I couldn't touch. I actually got very healthy, eating tons of fruit and drinking water. Grin

When I was expecting my twins, I didn't start to show early, but when I did start to show, I got big really quickly. My uterus lifted out of my cervix more quickly than in my fist pregnancy.
I didn't feel sicker but was so incredibly tired! But then I did have a lively young toddler.
People are affected in different ways of course, I suppose, as obvious as it sounds you have just got to wait till the scan, otherwise you could be worrying yourself or getting excited over nothing!

Thanks Overrun.

I did try to ring my midwife and after being passed around the hospital switch board (literally!!) and ending up talking to someone in EPU (I think) she said I had to go to my GP, I asked her what he would do and she said she didn't know but they wouldn't do anything for me at the hospital.

So keeping in mind my GP is useless, (he is the sort that you go in with a sore knee and he gives you an asthma inhaler...) it looks like we are just waiting for the scan I already have booked at the end of the month.

The only reason I can think of as far as having an early scan would be to see, if it's not twins, why you are showing so early. Maybe check amniotic fluid levels, etc? I showed really, really early with ds and they also thought it was twins. Had a scan at 10 1/2 weeks though and my dates were right, it was a singleton, and everything was normal. No one ever really had an answer for it. Pregnancy is a mysterious thing sometimes...

Hi Tia...
I found out I was having twins at 6weeks and 3 days into my pregnancy. But it was only discovered at that time, because I was having a fever & cramping, so my Dr. rushed me in for an internal exam to make sure everything was looking right, and that is when we discovered--it's TWINS!!! Oh Boy...after my husband got picked up off the floor...we rejoiced together.

I was very very very sick with my twins, much more than for the first 3 children. I certainly wasn't any larger at 3 months though. I wasn't keen to eat much. I had a scan about 10 weeks I think and was very pleased it was twins. It explained why I'd felt so ill.

You can also get scans done. I had both mine with the twin pregnancy done privately , but you have to pay.
