White noise... Anyone tried this to aid sleep?

Last night I suddenly remembered about a recording of the human heart beat or white noise can help with babies sleep and also stop crying (if they are not hungry, hot or need changing). I tried it on my 5week old twin girls and it was the quietest night we've had in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately it didn't put my most stubborn twin to sleep before two hours this morning, but it certainly helped to keep them calm. Has anyone else tried it...? I'm considering buying a proper machine now rather than just sound clips from YouTube...

I have a projector which has various sounds on and the ocean noise which is very similar to white noise really helps settle ds after night feeds.

I just used to have radio2 playing really quietly as background noise.

I used to put the hairdryer on on the worst nights. Think I'd have done anything for some sleep Blush

I haven't had my twins yet (32+5 currently), but I'd read the same about white noise. In anticipation of their arrival I've splashed out on Ewan. I'm hoping he's as good as the reviews suggest... m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/231141258/Product.aspx

Yup! We had a baby sleep egg. It was a battery operated white noise generator so was completely hands free and portable. I dropped it once and thought my world was over! DD needed dark, her bed and her noise box and she was off. Our Osteopath said she could feel the babies relax when it was on. Putting it on really loudly used to calm the hysterical crying too.

We keep the windows open for the noise and some fresh air. Gets them used to everyday noises and then they seem to be quite deep sleepers.

Did used to out classical fm on the radio too. That worked a treat.

Especially with a tantrum ing toddler in the car!

I have a sleep sound machine and I play white noise for my girls and it seems to work. It also blocks out any other noises that may wake them. I bought mine off eBay.
