Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Bleeding after a natural miscarriage - how long?

I miscarried on Easter Sunday (so 3 weeks ago last Sun) and although I had the first part of a medically managed miscarriage (the tablet) the rest happened by itself so I suppose it was basically a natural m/c (had already started bleeding before tablet). So I am still bleeding 3 and a half weeks on. It keeps getting lighter and I think I am coming to the end of it and then gets a bit heavier again. Blood is very light red (almost pinky)and occasionally looks like it has cm mixed in it (sorry if tmi).

Has anyone else experienced this, is this a usual amount of time to bleed?

Thanks

Jx

I bled for nearly 3 months after my 1st m/c. Eventually the EPU gave me some tablets (can't remember what) and it stopped almost immediately. I'd go and see them if you are worried.

Thanks Castles - will perhaps give it another week and then phone - I just want it to stop really - three months would be unbearable.

I had my mc last week a day before the 6th week.. It was terrible but I bled for just 5 days.. I am quite unsure why The dr.didnt give me any tablet to take for complete termination. Is it fine? but I already stopped bleeding.. no real clots and all.. I still feel pregnancy signs although a day before the 6th week thin endometrium and no gestational sac was seen at the transvaginal ultrasound. I feel leg muscle cramps, i feel pain at my hips--sleepiness (which is so unusual to me) and hunger pangs... sometimes i think I am still in denial, even my husband asks me sometimes why my tummy is unusually getting bigger... HA HA! Please enlighten me.

Hello Jacanne,

I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

I too miscarried on Easter Sunday. I was 10 weeks pregnant.

I had had a small amount of bleeding during the week prior but (what seemed to me) huge amounts from Easter Sunday coupled with terrible back and abdominal cramps (which seemed to happen daily at a similar time of day) which each time preceded very large (palm sized) clots of blood. It was physically and emotionally painful.

For me the bleeding only stopped this Sunday (May 3) and I have just had the follow up ultrasound to ensure that the 'products of conception' have all gone. They have. I too had been wondering when the bleeding would end. It had been so heavy and consistent for what felt like so long that it was a relief for it to finally finish up. I hope that it does for you also. Perhaps the length of time someone bleeds is also affected by the # of weeks pregnant they were when the miscarriage took place?

Once again I am so sorry for your loss.

Jacanne - so sorry you're going through this. I've had two mcs and I'm starting to believe that like pregnancies no two miscarriages are the same. My first I bled almost continuously from the moment I found out I was pg, until I lost the baby at 6 weeks. I had maybe one or two days of heavy bleeding, and then about four or five days of much lighter and getting progressively lighter bleeding.

My second mc I didn't bleed at all before, I went for an early scan at 6 weeks because I'd had a tiny bit of spotting and I'd already mc'd. I started bleeding that night, and it took much longer for the bleeding to stop that time. It was in all about two weeks, maybe a couple of days more. I do remember the frustration, I just wanted it to all end so I could get on with ttc again.

I hope your bleeding stops soon and you recover properly. Take care x

Thank you for your replies ladies - I phoned the hospital and have been in today and had a (very unpleasant) examination. The doctor says that there is no apparent blood coming from the cervix but that there is a red discharge and has given me anti-b's just in case and doesn't really want to see me again.

I have no idea what the red discharge is - there is definitely blood there. I am none the wiser but will give it another week before I pester someone else.

I am very sorry for all your losses

Ganda, the pregnancy hormones can stay with you for a long time - it could be that you are still feeling them. I have read that if you miscarry quite early on the pregnancy sac can be reabsorbed back into the body and you have bleeding that is similar to a heavy period. It may possible that's what you experienced.

Hi Jacanne, I've bled often for a month or more after both natural and erpc m/c's ( I've had 6 altogether). Often it was intermittent, somedays nothing than it would start again.
