Recurrent Miscarriage Consultant in Glasgow area or near

Hi there

I have had two miscarriages and have had recurrent miscarriage tests completed by my local hospital - everything came back normal.

I am pregnant just now but they are not confident after my last scan on Tuesday that this pregnancy will survive. I have to go back next Tuesday for another scan.

I am trying to come to terms with this and thinking of the future.

Does anyone know of a Recurrent miscarriage consultant in Glasgow or near that they would recommend - NHS or Private?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Amelied,

So sorry to hear of your miscarriages and that things do not look good this time. I have had 3 miscarriages in the last year and have now been referred to Alan Mathers in the Princess Royal Maternity. My GP who specialised in gyn highly recommended him (she actually advised me to wait and see hime rather than going private). Also I have heard many good reports including ones from the midwives (when I was getting an ERPC) and miscarriage consellor.

I have had my initial consultation with him and am now awaiting results from blood tests. He is very honest which DH I appreciated.

I can't comment as yet on how successful he will be for me but I do feel confident under his care.

He doesn't do any private consultations only NHS, I waited about 3 months on my appointment.

Hope this helps somewhat, take care.

Puzzlerocks - thank you for bumping me - much appreciated.

mm1509 Thank you very much for your reply and the name of your consultant. I am in the Renfrewshire area and not really confident with my Consultant. I dont know if it is the "right thing to do" by asking to see another Consultant? I hope your blood test come back normal. Mine's did, which I am hugely thankful for but it didnt answer any questions I had. I have an appointment with my Fertility consultant on the 11th of Feb so I am going to ask exactly what was I tested for because I haven't been told.

I hope all works out well for you and maybe you will let us know how you get on?

Take care

Hi Amelied, I'm a recurrent miscarrier - had 3 in past 18 mths and am in Glasgow. I am pg now and have had my care at PRMH. I was under a MW in the EPU for the first 12wks this time and all my bloods she took after my 3rd mc came back normal. I was never referred to a consultant and am under a different one to Dr Mathers now. I'm not sure if maybe it was because I got pg again and fingers crossed have got to 26wks that I didn't get an appointment, I'd definately have researched more thoroughly who was considered the leading expert in recurrent mc if I had.

There's no harm in asking for a second opinion I reckon.

Hi Scotlass - Congrats on getting to 26 weeks - to me, that is a huge achievement after what you have experienced.

Can I ask did you do anything differently this time - baby asprin, progesterone?

I am 40 in two weeks time and feel a huge pressure on me as timing doesnt seem to be on my side.
